A large number of members of the Pafos Police Department, almost 70 police officers, led by Pafos Police Director Kleitos Erotokritou, participated in a large operation organized last night.

In the large-scale operation in which all officers and non-commissioned officers participated and which was personally coordinated by the Pafos Police Director Kleitos Erotokritou, searches were carried out at premises and vehicle interceptions. There were three arrests of wanted persons in criminal cases and three arrests for possession of small quantities of drugs. A total of 145 vehicles were intercepted, 48 were searched and 42 traffic complaints emerged, while 4 vehicles that had been modified or did not have a certificate of  fitness were impounded. Nightclubs were also searched and loudspeakers and other audio transmitters were seized in 3 shops that did not have a license to broadcast music. One shop had 19 computers confiscated that were being turned into gaming machines.

The Pafos police chief assured the citizens of the district that there is security in the district and this feeling will be further consolidated.

At the same time, it sent a message to the illegals that they should be ready to face the consequences of their actions in any illegal action.

A 57-year-old man who was spotted hunting yesterday without a license. He was charged with illegally transporting a shotgun and explosives. According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations Michalis Nicolaou, the 57-year-old was spotted hunting wild game in a permitted area, but without holding a hunting license and was arrested for flagrant offences by men of the Game Service.

He was then taken to the police station of Polis Chrysochous, where he was charged in writing with the offence of illegal possession and transport of explosives. As far as the offence of hunting wild game is concerned, it will be reported out of court by the Game Service. His double-barrel and cartridges were confiscated.

A 36-year-old resident of Limassol reported to the Police that yesterday he fell victim to internet fraud, resulting in the extortion of cryptocurrencies of high monetary value.

Specifically, according to the complaint, on November 5, 2024, he had been in online contact with an unknown person, who allegedly wished to buy high-value cryptocurrencies.

After reaching an agreement, an online communication was arranged again yesterday, during which the 36-year-old was asked to transfer a very small amount of money to verify whether the transaction could be processed.

The unknown person then pointed to the  QR code (instant response code), which the 36-year-old had to scan to transfer the money from his own portfolio to the portfolio of the unknown person.

As soon as he scanned the code, the 36-year-old found that all his money had left his portfolio.

The Paphos Police arrested a 35-year-old woman on Wednesday to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of forgery, circulation of a forged document, impersonation and illegal stay on the territory of the Republic.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations Michalis Nikolaou on 6.11.24 around 11:00 p.m. members of the Paphos Aliens and Immigration Service and Police Headquarters  conducted a check in an ice cream parlour located on Apostolou Pavlou Avenue in Paphos where they found a woman working who presented a Georgian passport with the details of her age of 35. Upon further inspection it was found that the woman in question had arrived on 12.10.16 and had been granted a permit to stay until 2.11.16 and since then she has remained illegally on the territory of the Republic. From further examinations and through the employer, it was established that she, in order to be employed there, presented a Greek identity card, with a different name from her real one but which carried her photo in order to be able to register for social insurance and generally secure a work permit in the Republic . Subsequently, she was arrested for the offenses of forgery, circulation of a forged document, impersonation and obtaining registration and is in custody.

The lifer Doros Theofanous admitted the escape but not the conspiracy with his 26-year-old alleged accomplice, while the 26-year-old did not admit the charge of assisting the lifer, during yesterday's hearing before the Permanent Criminal Court sitting in Paphos, with the Court setting the 14th February, 2025 to continue the process.

The two defendants appeared yesterday in the Permanent Criminal Court under draconian security measures to answer the charges they face.

The 42-year-old lifer admitted to the charge of escaping from lawful arrest but pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy to commit a felony.

The 26-year-old answered that he did not admit to the crime of assisting the escape of a person who was in legal custody and admitted to the crime of disobeying legal orders, that is, that he came into contact with him.

The Court fixed the continuation of the proceedings for the purpose of hearing on February 14, 2025. As stated in the Court, the two are accused that between an unknown date and September 26, they conspired to commit a felony.    

It is noted that the representative of the Prosecuting Authority requested that the 42-year-old and the 26-year-old remain in custody. The lawyers of 42-year-old Alexandros Alexandrou, Savvas Matsa and Eleni Alexandrou and 26-year-old Ilias Satolias did not raise objections and the Court ordered that both remain in custody.

It was preceded by significant investigative work on the part of the Police before leading to the arrest of a person suspected of sexual abuse of a minor.

According to information obtained by Filenews, the complaint had been made last week, and immediately after its submission competent officials of the Corps began its examination.

In this context, a videotaped statement was taken from the complaining minor, who reported sexual abuse. On the basis of what he said, an investigative work followed, which led to the arrest of the adult.

Although the Police maintain secrecy due to the nature of the case, however, as it has been known, the arrested man was brought before a District Court, which issued a 7-day detention order against him.

Leaked information indicates that the suspect is in his fifth decade of age and has the status of basketball coach. However, the police do not confirm anything.

An unprecedented incident that occurred at a school in Nicosia last week is the subject of police investigations.

According to what was broadcast by the show "Alpha Update", a high school student went to the school where he attends having in his possession €15,000 in cash, which he even distributed to his classmates.

According to what came to light, a student received up to €3,500 because he wanted to buy a motorbike. One student received €500, while other students received a smaller amount. In fact, some of them have already spent the money.

The Police were informed about the incident following a father's complaint at the Strovolos Police Station, where the school in question belongs.

It is noted that the school management has contacted the parents of the children who received the money to return it.

A parent who spoke to the show "Alpha Update", said that the €15,000 in €100 notes and looked "glued", which means that they came from a bank. He claimed that a professor pocketed €50.

Police and the Ministry of Education are investigating the incident.
