The Police in Paphos proceeded with the arrest of six persons in order to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of illegal employment and employment.

According to Pafos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, members of the Pafos Aliens and Immigration Service, in cooperation with Undeclared Work Inspectors, visited a hotel in Kato Paphos to investigate information on illegal employment of foreigners.

After surveillance, Nicolaou said, they identified five people who were engaged in cleaning greenery. It was found that these were five men of Arab origin aged between 18 and 35, all asylum seekers, employed by a 45-year-old Greek Cypriot from the Limassol district without the relevant permits.

The five foreigners and the employer were arrested, interrogated and detained.

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man who was wanted to facilitate investigations into cases of theft and robbery in Paphos.

The 27-year-old had been issued arrest warrants in connection with cases of vehicle theft committed on October 28, oil theft committed on the same day, robbery committed on November 2, and two burglaries committed on November 18.

The 27-year-old was arrested on Tuesday afternoon but it was deemed that he needed to be examined by a mental health officer who diagnosed that he needed hospitalization and, therefore, instead of being held in detention, he was taken to the Mental Health Hospital in Athalassa. When the 27-year-old is discharged from the Mental Health Hospital, he will be rearrested and brought to justice.

A bomb exploded shortly before 11 pm on Tuesday night in a vehicle in Limassol. According to the police, the explosion completely destroyed two vehicles worth €36,000 while another vehicle was damaged. Authorities have already obtained warrants and two people are being sought.

Members of the Police proceeded to the arrest of a 26-year-old man, for the flagrant offenses of carrying weapons to incite terror, stabbing, and possession of burglary tools, following a report of a burglary of a premises in an area in Limassol last night. The case of burglary of the premises is being investigated by the Police and specifically by the ICF of Limassol.

The 26-year-old was spotted by members of the Limassol Crime Prevention Unit and Germasogeia Police Station wandering suspiciously in an area of Limassol, where members of the Police rushed for examinations following a report of a burglary of a premises, shortly after 11.30 pm on Tuesday. Police approached the 26-year-old for a check, but he fled. After the 26-year-old was stopped, he recovered and pointed a pistol at the police, who immobilized him and despite his resistance, proceeded to arrest him. It was later determined to be a dummy pistol.

In a subsequent search, a knife with a blade 30cm long was found in the possession of the 26-year-old, while burglary tools were found in a bag in his possession.

The Larnaca Permanent Assize Court yesterday imposed concurrent prison sentences of 13 years on a 23-year-old man who, after a trial of a drug trafficking case, was found guilty of the offences of importing and possessing drugs. The case had been investigated by the district unit of YKAN in Larnaka.

The case concerns the importation of a quantity of cannabis weighing 25 kg. The large quantity of cannabis was found in the possession of the 23-year-old upon his arrival at Larnaka airport, on a flight from abroad, last September.

On September 19, upon his arrival at Larnaka airport, the 23-year-old was subjected to a check by customs officers, in cooperation with members of the Anti-Narcotics Service – YKAN, as part of the coordinated actions taken by the Police and the Department of Customs and Excise in order to combat drug trafficking and identify persons importing drugs into Cyprus. During the search, 45 nylon packages containing dry cannabis plant matter, with a total gross weight of 25 kg and 610 grams, were found in the 23-year-old's luggage and seized.

The 23-year-old was arrested for flagrant offences and detained for police questioning. Upon completion of the examinations by the YKAN, the Police proceeded to the immediate registration of the case, for immediate trial by the Larnaca Permanent Assize Court.

Members of the Police proceeded to the arrest of a 48-year-old man, in the context of investigating two cases of burglary and theft, recently committed in premises under construction in Limassol. The 48-year-old suspect was taken into custody while the ICF Limassol continues its examinations.

The 48-year-old was found by members of the Limassol OPE shortly before 10:00 on Tuesday night in an area in Limassol. Members of the Police proceeded to arrest him pursuant to a court warrant, which had been issued following evidence that emerged in relation to the two cases under investigation.

The first burglary was committed between 7 and 8 October, in a warehouse of an apartment building in Limassol. The second burglary was committed at a house under construction in Agia Fyla, Limassol, between 08 and 19 October.

According to the evidence under investigation, building tools and machines were stolen from the warehouse, while various items were stolen from the house, such as a quantity of copper pipes and cables, copper spools, a pump and a turbine, as well as a chandelier.

On the occasion of this new arrest for cases of theft of property from erected buildings, in addition to the measures taken by the Police to prevent such incidents of theft, the Police recommend to contractors and building owners to take the necessary measures to more effectively safeguard their property. A series of security measures is listed below:

• Maintaining a list with detailed recording of property details

• Storage of property in safe areas. Do not leave exposed in open areas

• Storage security upgrade with security locks

• Fencing of the building

• Adequate lighting

• Installation of alarm systems where possible

The case had been investigated by the district unit of YKAN in Larnaka.

The case concerns the importation of a quantity of cannabis with a gross weight of 24 kg. The large quantity of cannabis was found in the possession of the 27-year-old upon his arrival at Larnaka airport, on a flight from abroad, last October.

On October 1, upon his arrival at Larnaka airport, the 27-year-old was subjected to a check by customs officers, in cooperation with members of the Anti-Narcotics Service – YKAN, as part of the coordinated actions taken by the Police and the Department of Customs and Excise in order to combat drug trafficking and identify persons importing drugs into Cyprus. During the search, 41 nylon packages containing a quantity of cannabis, with a total gross weight of 24kg, were found in the 27-year-old's luggage and seized.

The 27-year-old was arrested for flagrant offences and taken into custody for police questioning. Upon completion of the examinations by the YKAN, the Police proceeded to the immediate registration of the case, for immediate trial by the Larnaca Permanent Assize Court.
