AS OF 1 DECEMBER, LOW-INCOME PENSIONERS AND SINGLE-PARENT FAMILIES WILL BE SUBJECT TO THE EAC SPECIAL TARIFF

 Filenews 16 November 2024

From December low-income pensioners and single-parent families will be included in EAC Special Household Tariff 08. Yesterday, the decree of the Minister of Energy was signed in relation to the new categories of beneficiaries who will be able to benefit from the Special Household Tariff.

The inclusion of this category of consumers was decided during the government's latest package of measures to tackle high prices, while it was also included in the recommendations of the coalition parties.

In a statement, the Ministry of Energy and the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare say that the relevant decree will be implemented from December 1.

At the same time, they point out that an additional 22,200 low-income pensioner households and 10,700 single-parent households benefit from the measure.

At the same time, it is noted that the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, through the Service for the Administration of Welfare Benefits, will soon send to the beneficiaries who benefit, a relevant message (sms) on the mobile phone they declared to the Service.

It is also indicated that the Government's intention is to quickly serve affected vulnerable consumers, so that they can benefit, as soon as possible, from the 08 tariff for electricity from EAC.

"Given the above, we kindly request that affected population groups do not visit the local EAC District Offices for the issue before December 1, 2024, when the Decree and Decision of the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry will enter into force and they will be able to apply for inclusion in the special tariff," it added.

In conclusion, it is noted that more information regarding the application process for the inclusion of the new categories of beneficiaries in the special household tariff will be announced at a later stage by the Ministry of Energy, in cooperation with EAC.
