The Photographic Society of Cyprus – Paphos Branch organizes the competition The Wall_8th edition with the aim of exhibiting large images in an outdoor public space for a long period of time.
According to a relevant announcement of the Official Gazette - Paphos Department, with the contribution of photographers from both Cyprus and abroad, a wall in the center of the city will be covered with 30 colour photos. The event is included in the program of events of the Paphos Photography Months Photography Festival (MoPP2022). This is the 8th edition of the event.
As mentioned, the photographic installation will remain in force for 11 months and is expected to be visited by more than 70,000 people.
Entrants are invited to send up to five color photographs (horizontal orientation only). The theme could be either URBAN or STREET PHOTOGRAPHY.
In relation to the awards, the announcement adds, for the Public installation for 11 months, the top 30 photographers will be exposed in the installation that will be placed in the center of Paphos (central square) for at least 330 days. The location and duration of the exposure maximizes the visibility of their photos. According to the Official Gazette - Paphos Department, it is estimated that more than 70,000 people will visit and see the work of the participants. Printing and installation are covered by the organizers. Information about the artist and contact details will also be listed.
As for screenings, the top 60 photos will be screened at various F.E.K. events. in the main cities of Cyprus.
The project will also be published in local magazines and newspapers.
In addition, the Official Gazette - Paphos Department notes that the photos will be evaluated by a committee consisting of the following 3 members: Maro Kouri (Greece), Taras Bychko (Ukraine) and Joanna Madloch (USA) As the deadline for submitting applications November 15, 2024 has been set. As FEK - Paphos Department wishes to see more photographers on The Wall, there is a limit of only one photo per photographer to be displayed in the installation. Therefore, the top 30 photographers will be exhibited in the installation.
It should also be noted that the results will be announced on the official website of the CPS-Pafos Branch ( www.cpspafos.com ), on the Official CPS website ( www.cps.com.cy ) and on social media. Also, an email with the results will be sent to all participants.
Finally, it is mentioned that thirty photos will be selected for the exhibition. Sixty photos will be selected for the screenings. The photos will be exhibited in the center of the city of Paphos (Kennedy Square). Screenings will take place in the main cities of Cyprus. The opening of the installation/exhibition will take place in December 2024. The photographs will be printed and mounted for outdoor exhibition at 50cm X 75cm. The scale of the photos should be 2:3 (prepared by the photographer) otherwise the curator of the exhibition should adjust the photo.
Also, the organizers (Photographic Society of Cyprus – Paphos Department) will cover the cost of printing and preparing the outdoor installation/exhibition. Therefore, the only cost to the photographer is the entry fee with the opportunity to expose their work to thousands of viewers. The results and reports will be posted in the media and on the internet.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
• Subject: Urban photography or street photography.
• Photo orientation: Landscape only. Photos will be displayed in 2:3 scale format.
• Each photographer should send the photos in digital format electronically to the email thewallpafos@gmail.com by November 15, 2024 (attached files or via WeTransfer). • If the photos depict people without their knowledge or consent, the responsibility lies with the photographer who owns the work and not the organizers.
• Each photographer can participate with up to five photos (maximum).
• File Name: Each photo must be named using the photographer's first and last name followed by a number (1-5) e.g. Mark.Brown1.jpg.
• Photos must be in high resolution (at least 3000 pixels, the long side in 300 dpi resolution).
• The cost of participating in the competition is set at €20. Participation without payment of the participation fee will not be accepted.
• Each photographer can participate with only one entry (total of 5 photos).
• The entry fee can be paid via PayPal or bank transfer / deposit as explained above. In any case, a copy/photo of the payment receipt should be attached to the email with the participant's photos.
• The organizers reserve the right to use the selected photos for promotional purposes in the future, in relation to the photographer.
• Participations from abroad are welcome.
• There is no restriction on the place or time of taking the photos.
• The maximum number of entries in the final exhibition of The Wall for each participant is 1 photo.
• The maximum number of entries in the screenings for each photographer is 2 photos.
