Cypriot visual artist, illustrator and writer, Lefki Savvidou is ready to present a new body of work as she launches her latest exhibition Thank You for Being with Us. The exhibition will open on October 18, also forming part of the Limassol Art Walks that will take place on the same weekend. There will be special opening hours that weekend, after which the exhibition will continue to run until November 16.

For this specific showcase, Savvidou has turned her focus to an unlikely subject – the plastic bag, “a disowned poster-child of human evolution,” as the organisers say.

“Far from being a commentary on environmental issues,” they add, “Thank You for Being With Us digs deeper into what it means to be human and the potential regrets we might face at the metaphorical checkout counter of life. Savvidou uses the plastic bag as a symbol of humanity’s duality – our ability to create and innovate, coupled with our tendency to deny responsibility for our creations. The plastic bag, once lauded for its convenience, now embodies both our achievements and our flaws.

“This exhibition explores the tension between creation and consequence, yet it is not bound by ecological concerns. Instead, it serves as a mirror to the human experience. What do we accumulate throughout our lives? What do we leave behind, both physically and emotionally? Through her series, Savvidou invites us to confront the baggage we carry – often unacknowledged – and consider the long-lasting imprint of our actions and choices. “

Blending wit and vulnerability, the artist takes a closer look at the human condition through playful yet poignant visuals, encouraging viewers to reflect on their place in the world and the stories in their lives.
