Olive oil and potato prices in Cyprus have seen the most significant annual increases among consumer goods, rising by 61.3% and 57.7% respectively in September 2024 compared to the previous year, according to data analysed by the Cyprus Consumers’ Association.
The association’s analysis, based on the Consumer Price Index, revealed that while olive oil prices remained stable from August to September 2024, potato prices surged by 23.3% month-on-month.
In contrast, sugar prices experienced the most substantial annual decrease, falling by 28.3% compared to September 2023, with a further 1% drop from August 2024.
Other notable annual price increases in September 2024 included:
- Bus and coach passenger transport: 23.1%
- Vegetables: 17.6%
- Organised holidays abroad: 17.2%
- Fresh vegetables (excluding potatoes and other tubers): 16%
- Painter services: 13.8%
- Road passenger transport: 12.2%
Significant annual price decreases were observed in:
- Garden furniture: 14.2%
- Diesel: 13.4%
- Liquid fuels: 12.7%
- Car fuels and lubricants: 12.1%
- Petrol: 11.8%
- Margarine and other vegetable fats: 10.5%
- Men’s footwear: 9.2%
Month-on-month, September 2024 saw price increases in infant and children’s clothing (9.9%), boats and durable recreation and cultural goods (9.7%), and apartment maintenance charges (9.2%).
The largest monthly decreases were recorded in passenger air transport (19.4%) and transport services (16.4%).
