DISCOMFORT IN ISRAEL OVER 'NO' FROM EUROPEAN AIRLINES

 Filenews 14 October 2024

Israeli authorities have made no secret of their discomfort with European airlines' insistence not to fly to Israel, citing the dangerous situation due to the confrontation with Hamas, Hezopolaz and Iran.

Despite the decision of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to lift its recommendation not to fly to Israel, European airlines are still reluctant to fly to Israel. Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air cancelled all flights until at least 23 October and Polish carrier LOT postponed all flights until 1 November.

According to the Globes, even the Greek airline Bluebird Airways, which is partly owned by Israelis and has said it will resume flights, in practice did so with great difficulty and delay, due to restrictions set by the Greek aviation authorities. Air Europe, which had cancelled flights until the end of the month, decided to resume flights to Israel on October 21.

Israeli civil aviation and business officials cited by the Globes say the flight cancellation is mainly due to insurers' reluctance to cover flights to Israel.
