A 28-year-old man from Syria fell into the hands of the police, who was caught red-handed placing a cardboard box in an area of Ypsonas. The suspect was in possession of over €6,000, claiming that the money was intended for the purchase of a car.
The Syrian was brought this morning by members of the Limassol YKAN before the District Court for a request for his detention. The Court ordered detention for a period of 3 days.
According to the facts of the case, around 11:00 last night, members of the Limassol OPE, while patrolling the area of Ypsonas in the context of preventing burglaries and thefts, spotted a large displacement motorcycle moving suspiciously. The driver stopped and placed a small box in an adjacent field, in low vegetation, within walking distance of his motorcycle.
Immediately, the members of OPE Limassol approached the motorcycle and stopped the driver. After showing him their ID, they asked the suspect for his details. The latter was asked what he had placed in the grass and replied that he had thrown garbage.
The officers led him to the spot where the bakery's paper box was, which they took as evidence. Inside the box was found a clear nylon bag containing 30 grams of cannabis.
The suspect, questioned orally about the drugs found in the box, claimed he had thrown it away because he was scared.
In a body search, a batch of banknotes was found, which were counted and found to amount to €6,160.
The suspect did not give a satisfactory explanation as to where the money came from, but claimed that it belonged to him and that he intended to buy a car.

The authorities arrested a 30-year-old foreigner today, as part of the investigations into the fierce fight that took place on October 7, 2023, in the area of Agios Athanasios in Limassol. The suspect was located at Larnaka airport and handcuffed, as a court arrest warrant was pending against him in the case. The suspect appeared on the same day before the Limassol District Court, which ordered his detention for three days.
As Filenews had previously written, from the investigations and interrogations of the investigators of the ICF of Limassol, it was found that the cause of the fierce fight was the purchase and sale of a vehicle. Specifically, the 41-year-old injured complainant acted as an intermediary for the purchase and sale of a specific vehicle. Then, two of his compatriots arranged an appointment in the area of Agios Athanasios in order to resolve their differences with the 41-year-old. However, about 30 Syrians from both sides arrived in the area, causing them to be caught.
On-site examinations at the scene of the fight found various evidence, such as sticks, stones and crowbars, while extensive damage was caused to a vehicle, while blood stains were also found on the ground.

A 39-year-old man from Nicosia was found in Paphos and after an eventful process he was arrested by members of the Police, after it was found that among the cases pending against him was a decree of compulsory examination by a psychiatrist.
The 39-year-old was found late on Monday night in the Anavargos district of Paphos Municipality, following information from local residents that a suspicious vehicle was parked on a specific road for a long time. Members of the Pafos Police Department went to the scene and found that inside the vehicle was a man from an area of Nicosia who was also the owner of the vehicle and based on information from the Lakatameia Police Station against him, a mandatory examination order by a psychiatrist was issued on the same day by the Nicosia District Court.
When the 39-year-old learned of this data, he reacted strongly and locked himself inside the vehicle, refusing to cooperate. In the meantime, the police found that the person in question in the past attacked members of the Pafos Police by injuring a person with a knife and a criminal case was formed against him.
Given the furious situation in which the man locked in his car was apparently located, the police assessed that it was dangerous as harm could be caused to himself and other persons, so the Fire Brigade was called to the scene, whose men made a controlled break of the window on the driver's side of the vehicle.
It was then possible to arrest the 39-year-old despite the fact that during the attempt to arrest him he resisted and refused to be handcuffed. A search of his vehicle found a knife with a blade 7cm long and a second knife also with a blade 6.5cm long
The 39-year-old was taken by members of the Paphos Police Department to Nicosia where he was handed over to police officers. After being examined by a competent doctor, it was found that he needs immediate hospitalization at Athalassa Hospital.
