A sum of €5,500 was stolen from a car parked in a parking lot in the historic centre area of Paphos.

The 23-year-old Greek Cypriot owner of the vehicle and business operating in the area complained to police that he had left the money in the car, which had not been locked.

According to his complaint, the perpetrators located the money and stole it. Shortly before midnight, an expatriate resident of Pafos reported that his €3,500 vehicle parked in a second parking lot, also in the area of the old market of Paphos, was stolen.

Two juveniles were spotted driving on Sunday as part of a police operation to prevent juvenile delinquency.

According to the Pafos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, in the first case a 16-year-old, permanent resident of Paphos, was driving a car, and in the second case a 13-year-old, both without holding a driving license. The vehicles of both young people were confiscated, their parents were summoned and they will be treated as minors.

Moreover, 150 complaints were made by the Pafos Police in the last three days, including 8 drivers who were reported for driving under the influence of alcohol, 3 for driving under the influence of drugs, Nicolaou concluded.

Paphos Police arrested a 26-year-old man to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of theft from a house and a car, as well as annoying phone calls.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, a 49-year-old Greek Cypriot couple, both aged 2023, reported that between July 2023 and August 2024, on four separate occasions, a total of  €740 were stolen from inside their residence, while through their car the amount of  €100.

Furthermore, their 23-year-old daughter complained that her 26-year-old ex-boyfriend, with whom she recently broke up, harasses her daily with phone calls. It is reported that the parents and the 23-year-old expressed suspicions regarding the thefts against the 26-year-old, who had free access to their home and their car. The 26-year-old suspect was arrested on Sunday and is in custody.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested for facilitating police investigations into an ongoing case of assault on a police officer and driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Yesterday afternoon, a 31-year-old man parked his car outside the Kition Police Station and entered the Station in a drunken state. While the man was talking to a constable on duty, he allegedly attacked him unnecessarily by pushing him in the chest, resulting in his arrest for a flagrant offence.

Police have arrested a 57-year-old resident of Nicosia to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of child pornography. According to data obtained by the Cybercrime Prosecution Branch, an internet user in Cyprus allegedly made child sexual abuse files available for sharing online. Further examinations secured testimony against a 57-year-old resident of Nicosia.

At noon today the Police searched the 57-year-old's home. During the search, a computer, a mobile phone, an external hard drive and four data storage devices were found and seized as evidence.

A preliminary check carried out on the 57-year-old's computer identified a number of records of child sexual abuse. As a result, the 57-year-old was arrested for a flagrant offence and taken into custody to facilitate interrogations.

Members of the Police arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with two burglary cases committed in September and October in Nicosia last night. The 32-year-old was detained for police examinations, with the ICF Nicosia investigating.

Specifically, at around 11.00 pm on Sunday, in an area in Latsia, members of the Burglary Unit of the Nicosia ICF located the 32-year-old and proceeded to arrest him, pursuant to a court warrant, which was issued earlier in the day, following evidence that emerged during the investigation of the two cases. A search of the 32-year-old's car followed, where a number of burglary tools were found. Questioned by ICF members, the 32-year-old suspect confessed to committing the two burglaries.

These are cases of burglary of two petrol stations, in the area of Strovolos and Nicosia, committed on September 26 and October 06 respectively. A sum of money was stolen from the first petrol station, while no property was stolen from the second premises. During the break-in of the two premises he caused damage worth €80 and €400, respectively.

The police arrested seven people on Monday morning 21/10. Those arrested are suspected of beating a 45-year-old Greek Cypriot in Nicosia last Thursday (17/10) by a group of about 12 foreigners.

According to the complaint, it was around 2:30 a.m. when the 45-year-old was leaving a nightclub and for unknown reasons, he was attacked by a group of people. The 45-year-old was taken to hospital, where he was found to have multiple body injuries, a fractured skull and ribs.

Police have arrested seven people and are looking for more to facilitate the investigation. 

Update - The eight Syrians believed to be involved in the brutal beating of a 45-year-old Greek Cypriot in a bar in old Nicosia in the early hours of last Thursday were detained for eight days by decision of the Nicosia District Court.

Members of the ICF Nicosia who are examining the serious case have managed to link eight people out of the 12 who participated in the beating and led them to court today.

According to Filenews, it is not excluded that behind the beating was a tease to a woman who accompanied the 45-year-old. This information is being examined by the ICF Nicosia in order to determine the exact cause that led to the group attack on the victim.

According to a complaint being investigated by the ICF, it was around 02:30 in the morning, when the 45-year-old was leaving a nightclub and for reasons that are being investigated, he was attacked by a group of people. The 45-year-old was taken to hospital, where he was found to have multiple body injuries, a fractured skull and ribs.

The police initially arrested seven people and shortly afterwards an eighth, where all of them were brought before a court that ordered their pre-trial detention.

Police handcuffed a 42-year-old man in Limassol when he attempted to break into a house, but was noticed and the Police alerted by relatives living upstairs.

According to police, the incident took place around 11:00 on Sunday night, when the 42-year-old entered a house located on the ground floor of a building, with the aim of breaking into it. The house was empty at the time the 42-year-old entered.

Upstairs, relatives of the owners of the ground floor house and one of them realized that there was a person in the house and went to check. The 42-year-old jumped out of a window in an attempt to escape, resulting in injuries.

Members of the Police rushed to the scene for investigations and the 42-year-old was taken to Limassol General Hospital for examinations. He was found to have a fractured left heel and is hospitalized under guard. According to police, the 42-year-old was wanted in two other burglary cases. The ICF Limassol continues its investigations.

Police have arrested a 17-year-old unaccompanied minor from Syria in connection with Saturday night's incidents on the coastal front of Finikoudes between groups of young foreigners, while a second 17-year-old person is also wanted from Syria.

Police arrested a 49-year-old man on Saturday in Paphos to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of stabbing, possession of an offensive instrument and driving a motor vehicle without a registration certificate.

According to the Pafos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, on Saturday night members of the Paphos Crime Prevention Unit stopped a car driven by a 49-year-old man, a permanent resident of Paphos, for inspection.

Inside the vehicle, a kitchen knife, 20cm long, and a 37cm axe were found, Nicolaou said. Subsequently, the 49-year-old was arrested for the offenses of possession of offensive instruments and it was further found that he was driving his vehicle without a registration certificate, offences for which an extrajudicial order was issued.

As for the criminal offences, he was charged in writing and released to be summoned later.

Members of the Famagusta ICF arrested a 64-year-old Greek Cypriot yesterday 20/10/2024 in relation to the investigated offences of acts aimed at causing grievous bodily harm and malicious harm, offences committed against a 43-year-old Pole, permanent resident of Cyprus, on 18/10/2024 in Ayia Napa.

Specifically, on 18/10/2024, after an argument the two men had at their workplace at a hotel in Ayia Napa, regarding labour issues, the 64-year-old attacked the 43-year-old by throwing caustic liquid at him. The 43-year-old visited the Emergency Department of Famagusta General Hospital and after being examined by the on-duty doctor it was found that he had burns on various parts of his body, received first aid and was subsequently discharged. A judicial arrest warrant was obtained against the 64-year-old under which he was arrested on 20/10/2024.

Today 21/10/2024, the 64-year-old was brought before the Famagusta District Court and a detention order was secured against him for a period of four (4) days.

The examinations are continued by the ICF Famagusta.
