Race results of the Cyprus racecourse are allegedly hidden behind the criminal case that the Nicosia Crime Detection Department has been investigating since late September.

The arrest of two people, aged 37 and 30, respectively, for arson on a generator at the racecourse on 25 September may be related to a recent incident.

Specifically, one of the two arrested who have an active role in the Cyprus hippodrome had attacked a Greek judge disagreeing with his decisions. He was subject to proceedings by the Horse Racing Club and fined heavily.

Filenews reports that ICF Nicosia investigators are investigating whether the two cases are related.

The two persons, aged 37 and 30, were arrested in the early hours of Thursday following a coordinated operation by the Nicosia ICF and the Crime Prevention Unit at the racetrack.

During the operation, foreign employees of the racecourse were also checked to determine their residence status in the Republic of Cyprus. No illegality occurred. The resulting illegality relates to a 68-year-old horse owner and trainer who is the father of one of those arrested.

The latter was arrested after it was found that there are warrants for a fine of €40,700 against him.

The 34-year-old and the 30-year-old have been in five-day detention since Thursday following a relevant decree issued by the Nicosia District Court.
