As part of a five-year program, all bus stops nationwide will be upgraded with the aim of improving infrastructure and the quality of public transport, the Department of Public Works said in a statement.
According to the announcement, in the period October-December 2024, works will be carried out to upgrade bus stops and shelters on the following urban roads:
Nicosia District: Leof. Strovolos, Leof. Archbishop Makarios III-Leof. Limassol, Leof. Athalassis, Leof. Larnakos, Leof. Nikis, Leof. Georgiou Griva Digeni, Leof. Joseph Ch''Joseph, Kantaras (Strovolos), Eleones (Strovolos), Pericleous-Andreas Avraamides (Strovolos).
Limassol District: Leof. Archbishop Makarios III, Leof. Georgiou Griva Digeni, Leof. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Leof. Spyrou Araouzou-28th October (Paralikos), Leof. St. Guard, vertical port.
Larnaka District: Leof. United States of America, Leof. Eleftherias, Georgiou Christodoulides, Leof. Athens, Leof. Grigori Afxentiou, Leof. Archbishop Makarios III - Leof. Famagusta- Dhekelia
Famagusta District: Leof. Protaras, Leof. Protaras- Cape Greco, Leof. 1 April
Paphos District: Leof. Archbishop Makarios III - Leof. Athens, Leof. Apostolou Pavlou, Leof. Ellados, Gladstonos-Evagoras Palikaridis, Nikodimou Mylonas.
As mentioned in the announcement, the works include excavations on sidewalks to create foundations and then installation of new shelters at bus stop points.
The Department of Public Works asks pedestrians and users of buses and roads to exercise special care when passing through the points under upgrade and to comply with the local regulations for their own safety.
