WILDLIFE - ALERT REGARDING SNAKES

WILDLIFE - ALERT REGARDING SNAKES

Increased Snake Sightings in Human Settlements – What You Need to Know!

As temperatures drop and nights get colder, we’re seeing an increase in snake activity during the day. Additionally, during this time of the year, juvenile snakes are now seeking out places to hibernate for the winter, which means they're more likely to enter human settlements and even homes. This shift from nighttime to daytime activity, in Cyprus typical in September, increases the chances of encounters with humans.
If you come across a snake in or around your home:
1) Stay calm – Most snakes in our region are harmless and will avoid confrontation.
2) Do not attempt to handle or disturb the snake.
3) Call 1190 Wildlife Support Line for species identification and guidance on what to do next.
Let’s give these animals the space they need, and remember they play a vital role in our ecosystems!
