After the unacceptable things that came to light about the situation that existed in the Agios Georgios Elderly Home in Larnaka as well as in the neighbourhood, last night, with the help of the Police, all the unaccompanied migrants who had been hosted in the area since last June were moved. Although their move was to be completed gradually by Monday, it was eventually decided to move them from the home.
According to Filenews, some of the migrants objected to their movement, however, with the intervention of officers of the Social Welfare Services and the presence of a police force, they were eventually transferred to other structures throughout Cyprus.
According to the spokesman of the Larnaka Police, Spyros Chrysostomou, an operation was carried out from 8:30 last night until midnight for the movement of 15 migrants. "There was an operation of the Social Welfare Services in cooperation with the Larnaka Police Directorate and they were all transferred until midnight to other structures."
According to information, five of them were transferred to Famagusta, one in Nicosia and the rest are now hosted in facilities in Larnaka.
It is noted that a 17-year-old is in custody, who is accused of causing malicious damage to windows of the roof. The minor will answer within the day whether or not he pleads guilty to the charge he faces. At the same time, police are conducting ex officio investigations into allegations of indecent assault on a caregiver, for which no formal complaint was made.
