An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale occurred about half an hour after midnight, at 12:29 to be precise.
The epicenter, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Institute, was 18 kilometers southwest of Pafos, in the sea. The focal depth was 10 km.
The earthquake, which lasted a few seconds and was accompanied by humming, was felt throughout Cyprus and especially in the low area of Paphos which is closest to the epicenter of the tremor. No injuries or damage have been reported.
However, citizens from the city of Pafos and from communities in the peri-urban area came out of their homes in fear.
