Police are investigating allegations of sexual abuse against a minor girl by her mother’s partner.
The 13-year-old victim claims she was abused from ages nine to 11 during visits to her mother’s home, according to police sources.
Investigators from the Police Headquarters’ Sexual Abuse of Minors Investigation Branch have been examining the case for several days. The suspect appeared in court on Friday, where police requested a six-day detention order.
The girl alleges that the abuse occurred under the pretext of playing mobile games together. She claims to have informed her mother about the incidents on two separate occasions, at ages 10 and 11, but says her mother did not believe her.
According to sources familiar with the case, the victim only recently found the courage to report the alleged abuse to the authorities. The girl had previously confided in a third party about some incidents but was unable to fully disclose the extent of her experiences or file a complaint.
The mother’s partner is accused of inappropriate touching and other abusive acts over a three-year period. When confronted, he allegedly dismissed the behaviour as normal, the victim claims.
Following the alleged dismissal of her claims by her mother, the girl stopped visiting her mother’s home. After a two-year silence, she has now come forward to report the alleged abuse to the police.
