Members of the Police arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with an ongoing case of theft of tools and materials from a building in Limassol. The 36-year-old was taken into custody, with the Limassol Central Police Station investigating the case.

The theft was reported yesterday at the Central Police Station by the person in charge of the building under construction. Examinations carried out subsequently by members of the Police Station revealed evidence against the 36-year-old. A court arrest warrant was issued against him, under which he was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and taken into custody for police questioning.

On the occasion of this new case of theft of property from an erected building and in addition to the measures taken by the Police to prevent similar incidents of theft, the Police recommend to owners and contractors of building works, to take the necessary measures to safeguard their property. A series of security measures is listed below:

• Maintaining a list with detailed recording of property details

• Storage of property in safe areas. Do not leave exposed in open areas

• Storage security upgrade with security locks

• Fencing of the building

• Adequate lighting

• Installation of alarm systems where possible

The Police have arrested a 72-year-old man in connection with the fatal road collision in which Amin Rashidi Kavanroodi, 42, from Iran, died.

Specifically, following information, members of the Police rushed to the junction of Panikos Papaioannou and Aesopou streets, in Ypsonas, where they located the 42-year-old man, who had head injuries and was unconscious. The 42-year-old was taken to Limassol General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the data obtained from the tests carried out by the members of the Police, the 42-year-old was riding a bicycle on Panikou Papaioannou Street, in Ypsonas, where at the junction with Aesopou Street, under circumstances that are being investigated by the Police, he was hit by a passing vehicle, whose driver continued on his way.  

In the context of the examinations that followed, testimony emerged against a 72-year-old articulated vehicle driver, who was arrested last night on a judicial arrest warrant and taken into custody to facilitate investigations.

The Limassol Traffic Police continues the examinations.

A new case of sexual abuse of a minor was brought for trial before the Permanent Assize Court of Limassol, with the 16-year-old being the victim of brutal behaviour by three unknown men, in a park in Limassol. The horrific events of the shocking case took place about two months ago and the case reached the hands of the authorities, thanks to citizens, who alerted the Police.

The 16-year-old is a person with mental weakness, which was exploited by the three defendants. They are a 36-year-old man and two 34-year-olds, who appeared today for the second time before the Permanent Assize Court of Limassol. The case, however, was postponed again due to proceedings involving legal aid claims. The defendants were then taken back to the Central Prison as undertrials.

What is included in the witness material of the case is shocking since the three men allegedly took advantage of the vulnerable position of the 16-year-old Greek Cypriot and had sex with her by force. The heinous acts took place in a park in an area of Limassol during the afternoon hours.

According to the same information, the three foreigners were arrested after committing the offences, while under interrogation the two admitted that they had intercourse with the minor, claiming however that everything was done voluntarily. They claimed the victim had told them she was 20 and they didn't know she was underage.

The multi-page indictment includes 11 charges, relating to offences of conspiracy, sexual abuse of a child, while two of the three were illegally residing in the Republic of Cyprus. The 36-year-old foreigner has been staying illegally since 2021 while the 34-year-old has been staying since November 2023.

A new case concerning a knife attack is being investigated by the ICF of Limassol against a foreign person. This time, the cause of the attack that ended in stabbings was a misunderstanding at work.

Specifically, yesterday around 5 pm the Police were informed that in a factory in the area of Linopetra there was an injured person, whose injuries were caused with a knife.

Members of the force went to the factory where they found that he was a 33-year-old foreigner from Nigeria.

According to the testimony of a person at the factory and after studying CCTV footage, the 33-year-old was attacked with a knife by a colleague for an unknown reason. After examinations, it was found that the perpetrator is a foreigner from Iran, who is staying in Cyprus illegally after his application as a political refugee was withdrawn.

The perpetrator was arrested by members of the Police and taken to the Limassol Police Headquarters where he was detained.

The victim was taken to Limassol General Hospital and in oral testimony stated that he was attacked by his colleague for a misunderstanding that arose in their work.

A 34-year-old resident of Larnaka, who was wanted by the Police, was arrested at dawn today and detained to facilitate investigations into a series of cases of burglary and theft committed recently in the district of Larnaka.

A total of nine cases of burglary, theft, illegal possession of property, theft, illegal entry and malicious damage committed in recent months in the district of Larnaka are being investigated against the 34-year-old and are being investigated by the Larnaca ICF and the Kition and Aradippou Police Stations.

The 34-year-old was located and arrested around 2am today by members of the Police, who were on patrol in Larnaca. This morning he was brought before the Larnaca District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order against him.

It is noted that in order to locate the 34-year-old, the Police had proceeded, on July 30, 2024, to publish his photo and personal details.

The ICF of Larnaka and the Police Stations of Kition and Aradippou continue the examinations.
