Two cases of causing fire are being investigated by the Paphos Police. A car and a hangar of a livestock unit in Prodromi were burned.

According to Pafos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, yesterday at around 5 pm, a fire broke out in a car, which was parked in a parking lot of an apartment complex on Danae Avenue.

The fire, Nicolaou said, damaged the front right of the vehicle. Further examinations revealed that the vehicle belongs to a 38-year-old permanent resident of Limassol, which was temporarily parked there. The fire continued, it was extinguished by the fire brigade, the scene was cordoned off and is expected to be examined today by experts of the electromechanical service and officers of the Fire Brigade for the cause of its cause.

Besides, in a second case, around 8.30 last night, a fire broke out in a shed at a livestock unit in the village of Prodromi, which belongs to a 30-year-old man. The shed is made of wood and metal plates and with the cause of the fire it was completely destroyed. Mr. Nicolaou said that no animals of the livestock unit were harmed by the fire.

The scene was cordoned off and tests are expected to be carried out in broad daylight to determine the cause of the scene, he said.

Five people were arrested by the Police in the framework of a coordinated operation for illegal stay in the territory of the Republic and illegal employment that took place last night in Paphos.

Members of the Aliens and Immigration Service of Pafos and the Police Headquarters, in cooperation with officers of the Ministry of Labour, conducted a coordinated operation at business premises during which they located and arrested two persons residing illegally in the Republic from Nepal and Armenia aged 35 and 50.

Three other persons aged 22, 31 and 39, who worked in a hotel without permission from the competent authority, were also arrested and subsequently charged in writing with illegal employment, as well as their employer with the offence of illegal employment.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested for facilitating police investigations into an ongoing case of obtaining credit by false representations.

An announcement by the Police Communication Branch states that "according to the evidence under examination, the offences were committed between the dates of August 20 and 28, 2024, in Famagusta district.

A relevant complaint was submitted to the Famagusta ICF and for the purpose of investigating the case, a judicial arrest warrant was issued against the 21-year-old, based on evidence that emerged against him."

The young man "was located and arrested by members of the Police, pursuant to the court warrant issued against him."

The 21-year-old is expected to be brought before the Famagusta District Court today for a detention order.

The case is being investigated by the Famagusta ICF.

A 26-year-old man was arrested by the ICF of Limassol on suspicion of attempted burglary of a residence as well as possession of burglary tools, illegal possession of property and illegal possession and use of narcotics.

According to a 37-year-old owner of a house in Germasogeia, on Tuesday afternoon, he heard the doorbell ring twice but did not respond. Then he realized that someone was trying to breach the entrance of the house and when he opened the door he saw an unknown man, who walked away.

The would-be burglar had meanwhile been noticed by neighbours, who informed the police, members of which went to the scene and located and arrested the unknown man, who was found to be a 26-year-old homeless man.

He was found in possession of a small safe, five keys, a multi-tool, a knife and 1 gram of methamphetamine.

The suspect was arrested and detained to facilitate police interrogations.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested for facilitating police investigations into an ongoing case of theft of two trucks with a total value of €35,000 from a fenced area in Larnaka.

In a relevant announcement, it is stated that "in the context of investigating a case of theft from a warehouse, malicious damage and theft of two vehicles, members of the Force proceeded yesterday to arrest one person. This is a 38-year-old man who was arrested on a court warrant and taken into custody."

The theft "was committed between the dates of September 4 and 5 and concerns the theft from a fenced area in the district of Larnaka, of two trucks, with a total value of €35,000".

The man is expected to be brought before the Larnaca District Court today for a detention order.

Aradippou Police Station continues the examinations.

The Pafos Police arrested two persons to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of illegal possession of narcotic substances.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, during the various checks they carried out, they identified and arrested two persons in possession of narcotic substances.

The first case involved a 29-year-old man who was allegedly in possession of a small amount of a methamphetamine-like drug, as well as a small amount of cannabis.

The second case involved a 27-year-old man who was travelling on foot and was allegedly in possession of drugs.

The two persons were taken to the YKAN (Paphos Unit) and are in custody and are being interrogated.
