ALL TIME PASSENGER RECORD IN AUGUST

Filenews 11 September 2024 - by Adamos Adamou

This August was the best month ever in terms of passenger traffic to and from Larnaka and Paphos airports, thus confirming the estimates for a good tourist season as well as the many getaways of residents of Cyprus abroad during the holiday month par excellence.

According to data published yesterday by the International Airports Council of Europe (ACI EUROPE), in August 1.6 million passengers were transported to and from Cypriot airports, which is the highest number of passengers handled by Larnaka and Pafos airports in a month. According to the same data from ACI EUROPE, of which Hermes Airports, the operator of the two airports, is a member, passenger traffic in August this year thus records a significant increase of 5.7% compared to August last year. It is also noteworthy that the average load factor of all flights in August reached a high of 89%. Specifically, as it became known yesterday, in August 1.1 million passengers were transported to and from Larnaka airport with an average load factor of 88% and 500 thousand passengers from Pafos airport with an average load factor of 92%.

According to ACI EUROPE the top markets for Cypriot airports and passenger traffic were the UK, Greece, Israel, Poland and Germany and the top destinations were Tel Aviv, Athens, Vienna, Warsaw and Manchester. As part of Hermes Airports' strategy to enhance airport connectivity, the company cooperates with 54 airlines that operate flights to and from Larnaka and Paphos airports, offering 113 routes to 38 countries. It is noted that the results of the already increased air connectivity due to the incentives offered by the airport operator were passenger traffic last year to exceed the barrier of 11.6 million passengers for the first time, without excluding that this year's performance, despite the challenges faced at the beginning of the year, may be slightly better.
