The Deputy Ministry of Shipping announces that the Council of Ministers today, August 23, 2024, following an evaluation of the performance indicators, based on the numbers of passengers carried from 2022 until today, decided to extend the Contract for the operation of the Cyprus – Greece Sea Passenger Connection, for a further 3 years (2025, 2026, 2027).
The Cyprus – Greece Sea Passenger Connection was embraced from the first year by passengers with great success, surpassing all desired expectations, creating a new segment of the tourist market for travellers wishing to travel to and from Cyprus and the rest of mainland Europe with their private cars and motorcycles.
The Deputy Ministry of Shipping gave particular importance from the first moment to the smooth operation of the maritime passenger connection between Cyprus and Greece, which provides an alternative way of transporting passengers and their accompanied vehicles, serving in particular the needs of those who face difficulties in traveling by air, either for medical reasons or due to age or aerophobia.
Since the first trip in June 2022, more than 21,000 passengers have travelled, carrying more than 7000 cars and 700 pets. These figures prove that a maritime passenger connection is essential.
