PAPHOS STUDENT RESIDENCES - COMPLETION IN RECORD TIME

Filenews 26 August 2024 - by Dora Christodoulou

On September 23, the student residence erected next to the CUT facilities in Paphos will be officially handed over to the municipal authority by the contractor and two days later the student residents of CUT will enter their rooms. This is a process that is implemented in record time for Cyprus, since the signing of construction contracts and the start of the 203 rooms and other construction facilities counts only 11 months.

Already, the 100 rooms with the subsidized rent of €350 have been made available to students through an evaluation of criteria set by the CUT, while of the remaining 103 rooms with the rent of €550 have half remain available and it is only a matter of time before they find the tenants.  Regarding the rest, it has been decided that 13 rooms will be made available for students of the American University of Beirut, which already operates in Paphos.

According to the Mayor of Pafos, Phedon Phedonos, the student dormitory building has all the amenities for students and will be, as he said, an ornament for Paphos. The project was implemented on land next to the CUT school and the church of Panagia Pantanassa, which was purchased by the Pafos Municipality for €1.2 million.

In the plans of the Municipality of Pafos, Mr. Phedonos stressed, it is in the next phase to develop in the same area another area of Turkish Cypriot land of 32 plots in total that have passed to the management of the Municipality of Pafos, in order to create open green spaces, sports fields and parking spaces.

The projects to strengthen the academic presence in Pafos are of particular importance, given that the CUT itself has publicly estimated that in the second season of operation of the school of tourism in Paphos, its students will increase to 600 from the approximately 300 who studied in the first year.
