A horse was left unattended in scorching temperatures for hours in the Nikokleia area in Paphos on Sunday, sparking outrage among locals and calls for tougher animal welfare laws.
Photos shared on social media showed the animal standing in an exposed agricultural area without shelter from the intense heat.
Temperatures in the region exceeded 40 degrees Celsius.
Witnesses expressed shock at the owner’s apparent disregard for the animal’s welfare and criticised authorities for failing to intervene.
