The Pafos Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company as well as the entities surrounding it, with the aim of further enhancing the digital presence of the destination in Cyprus and abroad, are currently carrying out a study on the digital strategy of the entire district and action plans for the years 2025-2027.
The objectives of the study include, among others:
• Assessment of the current level of digitization of the Paphos district as experienced by visitors.
• Evaluation of the effectiveness and use of digital tools by local actors/partners/businesses.
• Examine the digital tools and strategies used by international portals and partners to promote Paphos as a tourist destination.
• Preparation of strategic digital planning and action plans to enhance the digital presence and identity of the Pafos region.
The study is being carried out by the Pafos Tourism Board in collaboration with a team of professors and students of the American University of Beirut – and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
As stated by the Executive Director of Pafos ETAP, Nasos Hadjigeorgiou, there can be no "Smart Tourist Destination" if providers, society and businesses are not digitally and technologically adequate, while implementing short, medium and long-term actions on an ongoing basis.
The first phase of work includes primary research on foreign incoming visitors while the second phase includes interviews and secondary research on all local partners, municipalities, communities of tourist interest, hoteliers, restaurateurs, tourism services, etc. In the third phase the study will deal with the examination of digital tools and strategies used by international partners and portals to promote Pafos. In the fourth and final phase, it is expected to combine all the findings from the previous phases and develop an integrated Digital Strategy and action plans concerning the entire Pafos region.
Through this study, the Pafos Tourism Board seeks to recognize the level of digital competence of the destination and to chart a course in order to remain a pioneer in the process of digitization and use of technological tools through a coherent strategy.
