An extrajudicial fine of €1000 was imposed on a 50-year-old man for possession of duty-free cigarettes.
According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, last night on Christou Kelli Avenue in Kissonerga members of the Paphos Traffic Police intercepted a car driven by a 50-year-old permanent resident of Cyprus.
A search of his vehicle found 11 boxes of cigarettes, which did not bear the required markings. These most likely come from the non-controlled areas of the Republic and were transported illegally, without paying the required duties.
The cigarettes were confiscated and the 50-year-old was fined €1,000.

The Paphos District Court issued a five-day detention order on Saturday against a 45-year-old woman to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of theft of thousands of euros from a department store in Paphos, according to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations Michalis Nicolaou.
Speaking to CNA, Nicolaou said the 45-year-old was arrested on Friday as part of an investigation into a case of theft from a store involving a large amount of money.
According to Nicolaou, the owner of a department store complained on Thursday that from the beginning of the year until July 30, based on checks made on the company's accounts, it was found that a sum of money amounting to €38,831 in cash was stolen from the store's receipts.
He said suspicions were raised against the 45-year-old, who worked at the department store at the time, and a court warrant had been issued against the 45-year-old, under which she was arrested on Friday afternoon.
She was brought to court on Saturday and placed under five-day detention for the purpose of investigation by the Paphos Crime Detection Department.

The arrest of a 27-year-old driver, who was found driving at excessive speed, proceeded at dawn to the Police in Limassol.

Attempted murder with a 29-year-old victim is being investigated by the Police in Limassol. To facilitate interrogations, a 23-year-old man was arrested who allegedly admitted to committing the offence.
Around 9 p.m. yesterday, information was received by the Police that a 29-year-old man was taken to Limassol General Hospital, suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen. Police examinations revealed that the 29-year-old was injured while in the yard of the 23-year-old man's house in Limassol.
Members of the Police went to the said house, where they located the 23-year-old. Asked about the circumstances of the 29-year-old's injury, the 23-year-old reportedly said that while he was sitting in the yard of his home, four people, including the 29-year-old, attacked him and hit him in the face.
According to the 23-year-old, in his attempt to defend himself, he pointed a knife with which he injured the 29-year-old in the abdomen.
A judicial arrest warrant was issued against the 23-year-old under which he was arrested and detained to facilitate interrogations.
As for the 29-year-old, he underwent surgery and is being treated by intubation in the intensive care unit of Limassol General Hospital. His health condition is considered serious.
