Police arrested a second person aged 21 yesterday in connection with the death of a three-month-old infant in Nicosia.

Specifically, on the afternoon of July 28, 2024, the Police were informed by the staff of Nicosia General Hospital that a three-month-old girl, who had been transported shortly before by ambulance, to the Hospital's Emergency Department had died.

Members of the Police visited the hospital and inspected the body of the infant, in which some marks were found, which raised suspicions of serious neglect of the child. Therefore, a judicial arrest warrant was issued against the 23-year-old father of the infant in connection with the offences of murder, causing death by reckless, reckless or dangerous act, and exposure of a child and dereliction of duty as head of family.

The 23-year-old was arrested and detained on July 29 to facilitate interrogations, while on July 30, he was brought before the Nicosia District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order against him.

During the post-mortem examination, according to the findings of the forensic experts, signs of serious neglect are found on the body of the infant.

Last night, 03 August, the 21-year-old mother of the infant was arrested with a court warrant at Larnaka Airport upon her arrival in Cyprus, while today she is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court.

A 35-year-old man who was wanted in connection with an ongoing case of threat, common assault, and threat of violence has been identified and arrested. The case is being investigated by the ICF of Larnaca.

A photograph and details of the 35-year-old were released by the Police, on September 08, 2022 and September 26, 2023, in order to collect information that could lead to his location.

The 35-year-old was located today by members of the Police, who proceeded to arrest him under a court warrant, which had been issued against him, for the purpose of investigating the case.
