Aleksandr Sakharov.

Petrov has dual citizenship of Russia and Germany, and Russian diplomats have already submitted a request for telephone contact and a meeting with him, it is reported.

As TASS reports, the US Department of Justice announced on August 9 that Petrov was extradited to the US and brought before a US court on a total of 11 charges, the sentence for each ranging from 5 to 20 years in prison.

It is also reported that 34-year-old A. Petrov was arrested in Cyprus on August 26, 2023, at the request of Washington, and that according to the US Department of Justice "he was allegedly part of a network" which, after the start of the Russian war operation in Ukraine, is accused of carrying out for the needs of a Russian company "illegal export of a large volume of microelectronic equipment". According to the US government, "this activity was carried out to circumvent US restrictions on shipments of certain types of high-tech equipment to Russia".

As TASS notes, Petrov said from the outset that he considers "his case politically motivated" and that he is being prosecuted simply because he is a "Russian businessman".
