The officer of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Haris Nicolaou informed about the field work for two days in Akamas in the framework of the OneBat program.
The aim was to study possible viruses in European bat species as well as their transmissibility to humans. A program, he notes, in which several European countries participate with scientists of various specialties and who collaborate towards its implementation.
The research targets the species Miniopterus schreibersi, which creates numerous colonies across Europe and is a long-distance migratory species, so the transmissibility of potential viruses is easier.
