INTERNATIONAL CHAOS - WHAT PROBLEMS ARE REPORTED IN CYPRUS - APPEAL FROM WIZZ AIR

 Filenews 19 July 2024

Cyprus is also affected, to a small extent, by technical problems in CrowdStrike's security software that has caused huge problems worldwide to banks, airlines, telecommunications companies, railways, media, supermarkets and other public services.

According to the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, which has the specialized security software, call centers, digital channels and public service shops have been affected. "This does not allow us to serve you," CYTA announced to X., clarifying however that the provision of its products and services has not been affected.

The Cyprus Mail newspaper said it had been affected as it had problems with its servers, as well as internet connectivity problems.

On the contrary, Hermes Airports informed that so far no problems have been identified in the operation of Cypriot airports. Some flights may be affected, but not because of problems at Cypriot airports but because the flight schedules of many airlines in other countries have been disrupted. The public will be informed in good time of any changes to flight scheduling.

Appeal from Wizz Air

Wizz Air, however, has just informed that its customers must go to the airport for their flights at least three hours before the scheduled departure, as the possibility of changes to flight schedules cannot be excluded. The company specifically informs the following: "Like all airlines today, Wizz Air faces extreme technical challenges due to the disruption of global third-party information systems. Wizz Air customers may experience network-wide outages with website and mobile app services temporarily unavailable. The following online services are not currently available:

  • Wizz Air website and mobile app
  • Booking system
  • Online check-in system and boarding pass display
  • Contact Centres – new bookings and changes to existing ones

During the break, free check-in at the airport is available. Therefore, we advise passengers to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before their scheduled departure time to have sufficient time for check-in, security screening and special airport health and security procedures."

Normally banks

Fileleftheros' communication with banks shows that they do not use this software and no problems in customer service have been reported.

Public

The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy informed in-cyprus that public services have not been affected, as they do not use the software that presented a technical problem in other countries.

No issue in the GHS

The HIO's briefing to Fileleftheros states that so far there has been no problems and no problem has been reported in serving beneficiaries and medical service providers.
