A fine of €300 was imposed on two persons for illegal employment and a fine of €400 for illegal employment on their employer was imposed by the Pafos District Court yesterday, according to Pafos Assistant Police Director of Operations Michalis Nicolaou.
In statements to CNA, Nicolaou said that the two persons, 24 and 25 years old respectively, had been arrested on Monday to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of illegal employment in a yogurt shop in the area of Chloraka in Paphos, while their employer was also charged.
On Tuesday, they all appeared at the Pafos District Court, pleaded guilty and were fined.

Two charred bodies inside a burnt vehicle were found by the Police in the Limassol district. At midnight, members of the Limassol Police Department were alerted after a call about a burning vehicle in the area of Litovounos, on a dirt road parallel to the road leading from Parekklisia to Kelaki.
A major operation is currently underway by police officers. Forensic pathologist Nikolas Charalambous also rushed to the scene for an autopsy, while members of the Traffic Police are expected to investigate the circumstances under which the incident took place. The possibility of criminal activity also remains open.
For the first time, the Limassol Police Department sent the Mobile Command Station to the spot where the vehicle was located, which is a unit providing technological data and services.
UPDATE - Filenews ; Shocking are the evidence in relation to the horrific case being examined by the authorities in Limassol, where charred bodies were found in a burnt vehicle in the area of Litovouno. According to philenews, these are two men with one body lying in the passenger seat and the second in the back seat.
For his part, Limassol Police Director, Andreas Angelides, noted that it is a saloon vehicle. Investigations, he said, are expanding and underway in all directions.

The Larnaca Permanent Assize Court imposed today concurrent prison sentences of six (6) years for the offence of possession of drugs for the purpose of supplying to other persons and four (4) years for the offence of importing drugs, on a 28-year-old man, who was found guilty during the trial of the case. For the same case, a second man, aged 25, has been convicted, who on March 08, 2024, was sentenced by the Larnaca Permanent Assize Court, to four (4) years in prison.
The drug trafficking case had been investigated by the district unit of the Anti-Narcotics Service – YKAN, in Larnaka. According to the evidence collected by the YKAN during the investigation of the case and presented by the Prosecution before the Permanent Assize Court, the 28-year-old and 25-year-old imported a quantity of cannabis into Cyprus in order to supply it to other persons.
Specifically, in March 2022, a quantity of cannabis with a total weight of 937 grams was found inside three parcels, which had arrived at a post office in Larnaca, from a foreign country. The postal packages were checked by customs officers, in cooperation with members of the YKAN, as part of the coordinated actions taken by the Police and the Department of Customs and Excise to combat drug trafficking.
The recipient of one parcel was the 28-year-old, while the recipient of the other two parcels was the 25-year-old. On March 16, members of the YKAN proceeded to their arrest, while in subsequent searches, two packages with a quantity of cannabis with a total weight of about two (2) kilos were found at the 25-year-old's residence. For the possession of the packages with the two kilos of cannabis, evidence also emerged against the 28-year-old.

A new search operation in shops, this time in Limassol, where products of controlled pharmaceutical and narcotic substances were found and confiscated, was carried out today by members of the Police, in cooperation with officials of the Ministry of Health.
The coordinated search operation was conducted in two stores in Limassol, based on evidence of trafficking of illegal products. Members of the Anti-Narcotics Service – YKAN, members of the Germasogeia Police Station, as well as officers of the Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry of Health participated in the investigations.
In the two stores, a total of 107 packages of green dry plant matter, resembling cannabis, with a total weight of approximately 261 grams, 11 packages of brown solid substance, resembling cannabis resin, with a total weight of approximately 16 grams, 25 cigarettes with green dry plant matter, resembling cannabis, 10 electric cigarettes, believed to contain the substance tetrahydrocannabinol – THC, a container of candies, also believed to contain THC, as well as a number of products believed to contain cannabidiol – CBD.
The found products were confiscated for further examination, with the YKAN (Limassol District Unit) and the Germasogeia Police Station investigating a case of drug trafficking and illegal trafficking of controlled pharmaceutical products.
It is recalled that an announcement* by the Pharmaceutical Services, in June, 2022, states that products containing cannabidiol – CBD are classified as pharmaceutical products and their marketing requires the issuance of a marketing authorization. Any commercial activity, involving wholesale distribution and sale to the public, without the required licenses, is prohibited.

The circumstances of the death of a 3-month-old infant are being investigated by the Police in Nicosia. To facilitate interrogations, his 23-year-old father was arrested on July 29.
Specifically, on the afternoon of July 28, 2024, the Police were informed by the staff of Nicosia General Hospital that a three-month-old girl, who had been transported shortly before by ambulance, to the Hospital's Emergency Department had died.
Members of the Police visited the Hospital and inspected the body of the infant, in which some marks were found, which raised suspicions of serious neglect of the child. Therefore, a judicial arrest warrant was issued against the 23-year-old father of the infant in connection with the offences of murder, causing death by reckless or dangerous act and the report of a child and dereliction of household head.
The 23-year-old was arrested and detained on July 29 to facilitate interrogations. Yesterday he was brought before the Nicosia District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order against him.
On the body of the infant, the legal autopsy was carried out yesterday. According to the findings of the coroners, signs of serious neglect are found on her body.

Police on Tuesday arrested a 42-year-old Limassol resident for an investigated case of motorcycle theft.
The owner of a company in Limassol had reported two motorbikes as stole between last Friday and Monday. The motorcycles had been parked in an open area, outside the offices of the company in question.
Police investigations yielded testimony against the 42-year-old, on the basis of which a judicial warrant was issued for his arrest.
Officers arrested the suspect overnight and he was taken into custody.
Limassol CID is furthering the investigation.

A commercial truck was seized due to an attempt to transport fresh meat to the occupied areas from an unauthorized crossing point, officers of the Customs Department proceeded on July 25, following a relevant notification by the Police.
Specifically, after a check on the truck, which was stopped by a patrol of members of the Police at a point near the Green Line, a large quantity of fresh meat was detected, which would be transported from an unauthorized crossing point, from the free to the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus.
Officers of the Department of Customs and Excise as well as officers of the Veterinary Services were called to the checkpoint to further investigate the case.
The meat in question exceeding 2 tons was confiscated by the Veterinary Services, since they did not bear the relevant markings and due to inappropriate transport conditions in an unapproved or licensed vehicle.
