Paphos Police arrested two people on Monday to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of illegal employment in Paphos, while their employer was also charged. 

According to the Assistant Police Director of Operations of Pafos, Michalis Nicolaou, on 29.7.24 at 10:15, members of the Aliens and Immigration Service of Pafos went to a yogurt manufacturing store in the area of Chlorakas to investigate information that foreigners were working there illegally. 

During the inspection they carried out, they identified two persons whom they arrested for the offenses of illegal employment in the Republic. 

Specifically, Mr. Nicolaou told CNA, these are men aged 25 and 24. Their employer, a 53-year-old man from the UK, was charged in writing after questioning and released to be summoned later.

Pafos Police arrested two persons to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of illegal possession of narcotic substances and drug use.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Pafos Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, on 30.7.24 at about 1:00 am, members of the Pafos Police were conducting checks of suspicious vehicles and persons on Ellados Avenue when they intercepted a vehicle driven by a 38-year-old man and a 31-year-old passenger, An investigation told CNA by Mr. Nicolaou, who was in the possession of both in the possession of the 31-year-old passenger, found a quantity of cannabis weighing about 9.5 grams and he was arrested for a self-driving offense. Under questioning, the 31-year-old confessed that he possessed them for his own use and that the 38-year-old driver had nothing to do with the drugs found.

Furthermore, the 38-year-old driver was given a drug test with a positive indication, while an alcohol test revealed that he was driving at 22 Mg instead of 9 Mg which is the legal limit, was driving without a driver's license, without insurance and his vehicle was declared immobilized. The vehicle was subsequently impounded. The two persons were charged in writing and released to be summoned later.

Pafos Police arrested a 26-year-old man to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of carrying a dangerous weapon.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Pafos Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, yesterday Monday at 20:20 in the area of Chlorakas, members of the Paphos Police Intercepted a vehicle for inspection driven by a 26-year-old permanent resident of Cyprus and as it appeared that he was carrying inside his vehicle a knife of prohibited type with a blade of 9.5 cm.

He was subsequently arrested, charged in writing and released to be summoned later.

The Pafos Police arrested a 29-year-old man yesterday for illegal stay in the territory of the Republic, while his employer will also be charged with illegal employment and employment.

According to Pafos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nicolaou, on Sunday morning, members of the Pafos Aliens and Immigration Service, spotted in an ice cream shop – following information – that foreigners are working illegally at the premises – a person engaged in cleaning the store.

The Larnaka Assize Court yesterday imposed a 5.5-year prison sentence on a 29-year-old man, a resident of Larnaka, who was found guilty in a case of illegal possession of drugs with intent to supply to another person.

A statement from the Police Communication Branch said that "the 29-year-old was arrested on February 1, 2024, by members of the YKAN, after a quantity of cannabis, with a gross weight of three kilograms and 200 grams, was found in his vehicle."

The case was investigated by the Larnaka District Unit of YKAN.

A serious case involving the death of a dog after being shot is being investigated by the Police and specifically by the Kokkinotrimithia police station.

The incident took place shortly after 05:30 in the morning on Sunday in an area of the village of Agioi Trimithias in the Nicosia district. A 55-year-old man had taken his three dogs for training in an area near a small temple just outside the community.

He later told police he lost sight of his dogs at one point and heard a gunshot. Two of them returned, and shortly afterwards the third appeared. Then he heard a second shot with the third dog falling to the ground.

According to the official information we received from the Police, the 55-year-old left the spot and around 07:00 made a complaint at the relevant police station, that of Kokkinotrimithia.

Members of the police later went to the scene where they located a 64-year-old man, who allegedly admitted to shooting the dog. Reports indicate that as soon as the police arrived at the site, the carcass of the dog was in a barrel and burning. The same information states that the fire was immediately extinguished.

It should be noted that from on-the-spot police examinations, a number of shotguns were found in the possession of the 64-year-old.

As we have been officially told, no arrest warrant had been issued as of yesterday afternoon. The autopsy on the carcass of the unfortunate four-legged, which has been received by the veterinary services, is pending.

It was not immediately clear under what circumstances the incident took place and whether the 64-year-old is suspected of specific offences. We were told that the investigative work of the Police is ongoing.

On the photo-tagging cameras, young masked men were seen yesterday at noon on a central Avenue of Limassol.

The youths wearing hoods on their heads, some of them on motorcycles, destroy the cameras, painting them blue. All this in front of the eyes of passing drivers who in the whole incident just stay with their mouths open.

The incident was recorded by a driver and posted on social media where it has been making the rounds on the internet for the last few hours.

The authorities are aware of the incident with those involved being fans of a specific Limassol team.

Ampoules with nitrous oxide and their use paraphernalia were found and confiscated last night, during a search carried out by members of the Famagusta OPE at a kiosk in Ayia Napa.

In particular, during the police search, 50 unused ampoules of nitrous oxide, five ampoules of ampoules, a metal canister and 25 balloons were found and confiscated.

The 35-year-old kiosk owner was arrested for a flagrant offence to facilitate interrogations. He was taken to a police station, where, after being interrogated, he was released pending scientific examinations on the evidence.

The case is being investigated by Ayia Napa Police Station.

A large quantity of vials containing nitrous oxide were found and seized yesterday, also in Ayia Napa, during a joint operation between the Police and the Department of Customs.

The 36-year-old suspect who was arrested on Saturday afternoon in connection with the case broke down and confessed to committing offences such as possession of a quantity of 40kg. After the arrest of his 32-year-old sister, the suspect changed his stance and confessed that the huge amount of drugs is his.

As Philenews learns, he admitted, among other things, that he was acting as a storekeeper and that his sister has no involvement in the case. As far as the apartment is concerned, he said that he uses it, despite the fact that the lease is in his sister's name.
After the above development, the 32-year-old was released.

It is recalled that the YKAN reached the 36-year-old after information was given on July 18 that he possesses, uses and distributes narcotic substances while he is in possession of quantities that he hides in his apartment in Mesa Geitonia.

It should be noted that on the 25th of the month a court search warrant was issued for the suspect's apartment while new information was received that the suspect is in possession of small quantities of cannabis which he hides in his home. According to what was reported in court, this information was given by a person who had a private perception, since he comes from the 36-year-old's very close environment and recently became aware of drugs after visiting him.

According to the facts of the case, around 5 pm on Saturday, members of the YKAN (Limassol District Unit) stopped a car driven by a 36-year-old man on a Limassol road. During the search that followed, the 36-year-old was found in possession of two nylon packages containing cannabis, with a total gross weight of six grams, while inside the vehicle were found and seized two more nylon packages with cannabis, with a total gross weight of two kilos and the amount of €12,400.

As a result, the 36-year-old was arrested for a flagrant offence.

A search was then carried out at an apartment in Limassol, the keys of which had been found in the 36-year-old's possession.

During the investigation it was found the door of one bedroom was closed and locked. The suspect declared ignorance of this and a search inside the apartment found hidden over a curtain rod in the living room, a key which was received and found to be that of the bedroom door. After entering the room, searches followed where 6 travel suitcases were found in the presence of the suspect, in which there were 38 kilos of cannabis.

A small quantity of cocaine with a gross weight of half a gram and a quantity of cannabis with a gross weight of two grams were also seized.

Also, in a cabinet inside the apartment, two pistols, in usable condition, and 14 pistol cartridges, as well as two cardboard boxes, containing a total of 2000 rounds of 9mm calibre, were found and confiscated.

The suspect was brought last Sunday before the Limassol District Court, which ordered his detention for a period of eight days.

Police arrested three people yesterday as part of an investigation into a case involving conspiracy to commit a felony, rioting, causing malicious damage, assault causing actual bodily harm and possession of offensive instruments.

Specifically, around 11 p.m. yesterday, information was received to the Police that in an area of Limassol, there were about 30 people gathered who quarrelled with each other.

Members of the Police went to the area, where those gathered fled, while according to the evidence under investigation, the group of 30 people threw stones, firecrackers and fireworks at a specific house. During the incident, a 16-year-old was injured, who was inside the said house.

During the checks carried out in the area, two vehicles, carrying two 23-year-olds and a 27-year-old, who were in possession of offensive instruments (irons, pipes, crowbars) were intercepted and arrested for a flagrant offence.

The ICF of Limassol and the Polemidia Police Station continue the examinations.

Police arrested a fifth person yesterday in connection with the explosive device placed by unknown persons in the car of a Central Prison officer in Nicosia on July 4.

He is a 27-year-old resident of Nicosia who was arrested under a court warrant and detained to facilitate interrogations.

The explosion occurred in the early morning of July 4, in a car owned by a 60-year-old man, which was parked in an area of Nicosia. Examinations carried out at the scene revealed that the explosion was due to an improvised explosive device.

Three other persons, aged 31, 39 and 42, were arrested and are already in eight-day detention in connection with the same case. Another person, who was arrested and detained in connection with the same case, was released yesterday, without charge at this stage.

The ICF Nicosia continues the examinations.

The Larnaka Assize Court today imposed an 11-year prison sentence on a 22-year-old British woman who attempted to import into Cyprus, through Larnaka airport, about 16 kilos of dry cannabis plant matter.

According to police, the 22-year-old was found guilty by the Assize Court on charges of unlawful importation of a Class B controlled drug, unlawful possession of a Class B controlled drug and importation of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply to other persons.

The young woman was found on April 22 at Larnaka airport, having in her luggage a quantity of dry cannabis plant matter, with a total weight of approximately 15,988 kg.
