CRIME ROUND UP

A large operation is underway by a unit of the Police Unit in cooperation with various departments and units of the Pafos Police Directorate.

During the operation, in four different parts of the district, interceptions and searches of vehicles and premises are carried out in order to prevent organized crime and identify foreigners residing illegally in Cyprus.

An expatriate who regularly engages authorities with burglary and theft cases was arrested by police when he entered a courtyard of a mansion. The expatriate, who is known to the authorities, had entered a courtyard of a villa in the "Dima" area of Chloraka.

The police were notified and a patrol of the force that rushed to the scene spotted the Greek expatriate leaving the yard. He was not in possession of burglary tools, nor had the residence been broken into. He was arrested, however, as warrants were pending against him.

As part of an investigation into drug possession, possession of drugs with intent to supply to other persons, drug use and money laundering, police arrested two people yesterday afternoon.

They are 22-year-old and 20-year-old, who were detained to facilitate interrogations.

The arrest of the above persons was preceded by a search of the car in which they were traveling, during which a number of nylon packages containing dry cannabis plant matter, weighing approximately 214 grams, three handmade cigarettes and a precision scale, were found.

Also, the search of the possession of the 20-year-old (driver) found a sum of money amounting to €3,240.

Both were arrested first for flagrant offences and then on the basis of court arrest warrants.

The Limassol Police proceeded to the arrest of three persons, following an investigation in the context of checks regarding the Private Agencies for the Provision of Security Guard Services (guards in companies) and private guards.

Specifically, in a coordinated operation of the Limassol OPE on Saturday evening, three persons aged 52, 50 and 21 were found at a construction site under construction of a building complex on the Limassol coastal front, working there as guards, without having the required permits.

As a result, they were arrested for a flagrant offence and taken to the Minor Offences Department, where, after being questioned, they were charged in writing to be summoned as soon as possible before the Court.

They were subsequently released.

Members of the Larnaca Police Authority, intercepted on Sunday afternoon a 38-year-old man, who was moving suspiciously in an area of Larnaka.

In a subsequent search, he was found in possession of a backpack containing various documents belonging to other persons, two mobile phones and five car keys, for which he did not give sufficient explanation for their possession.

The 38-year-old was arrested for the offence of unlawful possession of property, and then under questioning allegedly admitted that the objects in question did not belong to him. Also, the suspect admitted two cases of vehicle theft and one case of attempted vehicle theft, committed between June – July, 2024 in Larnaka district.

At the same time, in a vehicle owned and used by the 38-year-old, four mobile phones were located and confiscated, among others.

The ICF of Larnaca is investigating the case.
