Filenews

With a 13-year sentence on charges of sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 13, one of the most chilling cases tried before the Cypriot Justice was closed, with a 50-year-old accused and his foster daughter who experienced nightmarish moments at his hands at the tender age of 11.

This is a case brought to light by philenews, with the hearing taking place behind closed doors before the Permanent Assize Court of Limassol. The case was reported to the authorities in 2023 and took the path of justice, with the Limassol Assize Court sentencing the 50-year-old to 13 years in prison after earlier finding him guilty after a hearing on 15 charges relating to child sexual abuse offences under the age of 13.

As we wrote on May 24, these were offences committed for about a year behind the closed doors of the house where the minor was raised. At the time the offences were committed, the victim was only 11 years old. The case was heard after the defendant denied the charges against him.

In its sentencing, the Assize Court had found all prosecution witnesses credible in contrast to defence witnesses, including the accused, who were found to be unreliable.

The little girl was looking for affection and love, feelings that she did not have the opportunity to get from her real parents. She was given to a foster family about 3 years ago in order to grow up in a healthy environment, but the little girl lived for a whole year the ultimate nightmare at the hands of her foster parent. The now 14-year-old girl found the strength to reveal what was happening in the house where she was growing up, to her foster mother, with the case reaching the hands of the authorities.

The complaint reached the hands of the Office for the Handling of Family Violence and Child Abuse of the Headquarters and after investigation, the case was brought for trial in camera before the Permanent Assize Court.
