Successful operations by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria directly concern Cyprus.

According to a statement from the agency last Sunday, the latest findings include a commitment of 250 g. Cocaine. The amount of drugs in question was well hidden in shoe soles.

"The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted various quantities of cocaine and opioids such as tramadol, pentazocin injection, morphine sulfate, ketamine injection, among others, hidden in shoe soles, clothing and other items intended for shipment to the United States, the United Kingdom, and Cyprus," the African country's news website said. NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said in a statement on Sunday that while at least 250 grams of cocaine going to Cyprus were hidden in soles of handmade shoes, over five kilograms of opioids heading to the US and UK were discovered by NDLEA officers in clothing and other household items intended for shipment via some courier companies in Lagos.

It should be noted, however, that in 2024, 5 kilos of cocaine were seized by the Anti-Narcotics Agency. The trade of this substance on our island is one of the largest illegal trade networks with alarming dimensions.

According to the global crime index compiled in the Interpol database, the cocaine trade is related to the summer resorts of Ayia Napa and Paralimni.

An illegal operation to supply illegal items to inmates inside the Central Prison took place last night.

Between the hours of 22:00 – 23:00, prison guards on duty in the towers of the prison premises spotted a drone carrying two packages. They monitored the course of the flying object, finding that it left the two packages in question at a specific point, near a prisoner wing.

After seizing the objects and preliminary examinations through an X-ray machine, it was found that the drone was carrying a mobile phone and phone chargers.

The detained items were handed over to the Nicosia Crime Detection Department, which is investigating the case. Scientific and other tests will be carried out on the found items, which may lead to suspects.

In an identical illegal operation last Saturday, a drone carried seven mobile phones from a point in the buffer zone. In this case too, there was timely intervention by prison guards.

The cases are being investigated by the ICF of Nicosia.
