Immediately after being discharged from the Mental Health Hospital in Athalassa, the 50-year-old suspect in the murder of his 43-year-old brother-in-law in Pegeia, was rearrested by the police and detained. The 50-year-old had been hospitalized at the Mental Health Hospital for a week.

A case of premeditated murder against him is being investigated of Stelios Stylianou from Pegeia, whose sister was married to the suspect. The 43-year-old plumber's murder took place late in the evening of July 3 at the suspect's home, where the whole family had gathered for dinner.

Police examinations show that there was at one point a confrontation for a trivial reason and the 50-year-old fired a shotgun, fatally wounding the 43-year-old. The alleged perpetrator then fled the scene and shortly afterwards visited Paphos Hospital, where he was found to have frictional injuries to his legs and various bruises.

He was arrested on the basis of a court warrant and taken into custody, while under interrogation he admitted to committing the offence.

The death of the unfortunate Stylianos, according to the autopsy report, was due to internal bleeding – crushing vital organs caused by a firearm.

Around 2am today, information was received about an injured person in the area of the Medieval Monastery in Ayia Napa, who was transferred to Famagusta General Hospital.

Members of the Police went to the Hospital, where from the examinations carried out, it was found that the injured man is a 23-year-old resident of the Famagusta district. According to doctors, he had four lacerations on various parts of his body and was admitted to surgery. His condition is considered serious.

A little later and during the examinations in the surroundings of the Medieval Monastery, a 42-year-old man was spotted wandering suspiciously.

In a body search, he was found in possession of a bloody folding knife and as a result he was arrested for a flagrant offence.

The arrested man was detained while the Famagusta ICF continues its examinations.

A 6-day detention order was issued by the Limassol District Court against a 48-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of fraud involving the Metamax pyramid.

A judicial arrest warrant had been obtained against the 48-year-old and he was wanted, following complaints from citizens, arrested yesterday afternoon in Paphos and transferred to the ICF Limassol for questioning.

The 48-year-old is alleged to have been the person who, through presentations, convinced citizens to invest in Metamax, which promised big and fast profits. The suspect allegedly claims that he too was a victim and lost money by investing in the online platform.

In the morning he was brought before the court, which ordered their 6-day detention to facilitate police interrogations.

A 54-year-old man is already in custody in the case, while a 63-year-old man is still wanted.

Police arrested two more suspects in connection with the explosion at a café in Nicosia on June 22.

They are two men, aged 26 and 23, who were arrested yesterday on court warrants and detained to facilitate interrogations.

The explosion at the café occurred around 4.40am on June 22, 2024, causing extensive damage to the side entrance of the café. From the examinations of the Police pyrotechnics at the scene, it was found that the explosion was due to the detonation of an improvised bomb, with a high-power explosive. At the time the homemade bomb exploded, persons were working on the premises.

The two arrested were brought today before the Nicosia District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order. It is recalled that a 35-year-old man is in custody for the same case.

Police are investigating, among other things, a case of attempted murder and attempted destruction of property with explosives. The case is being investigated by the ICF of Nicosia in cooperation with the YKAN (Nicosia District Unit).

Two persons aged 36 and 25 were arrested and detained this morning, who are being investigated, among other things, for offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, usury and profiteering, demanding money by threats and seizing or kidnapping or depriving liberty.

In the context of collecting and evaluating evidence, the Police proceeded to the arrest of the above persons, in order to facilitate the investigations regarding an investigated case concerning the receipt of a financial loan from a third person.

The two arrested appeared today before a court, which issued a detention order for five days.

The ICF Nicosia continues the examinations.
