Filenews 9 June 2024

With the completion of the expansion works on the campus of European University Cyprus this month and the construction of a completely new wing next to the Medical School, the School of Veterinary Medicine opens its doors to its first students in September.

The level of the new facilities and complete modern equipment consists of a wide range of anatomy models and, mainly, simulation and exercise laboratories in carrying out interventions on special models before their application to live animals, which laboratories may be the best in Europe.

Objective of the Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Dimitris Raptopoulos is "to guide the School in high-level veterinary education, on the basis of European certification and quality of education and to make the School a hub in the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean".

The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) equips students with the necessary skills (Day One Competencies) and aims to promote veterinary science, the mission of which, in the context of One Health, is to ensure the health and welfare of animals, the improvement of animal production, the protection of Public Health, by controlling zoonoses transmissible to humans, certifying the suitability of food of animal origin and reducing the use of antibiotics, as well as protecting the environment and biodiversity.

The Degree meets the requirements of the European System of Evaluation of Veterinary Training (ESEVT) and other EU and international guidelines. Students will be trained in advanced simulation laboratories, using innovative teaching methods, will be taught, in English, by experienced, prestigious professors, while at the same time they will develop clinical skills through the University Small Animal Clinic, which will also operate at the School. An additional crucial link for students, of course, is the wide range of collaborations between contracting bodies and structures in Cyprus and Europe, which they will be able to utilize.
