RED WARNING EXPECTED FOR FRIDAY

 Filenews 13 June 2024

A "red warning" for extremely high temperatures is expected to be issued tomorrow by the weather service.

Speaking on state radio, meteorology officer Tasos Koulentis said that with current data, the thermometer inside will reach 45 degrees Celsius.

He also said that depending on temperatures, warnings may be issued for the coast and mountains.

Especially regarding the coast, he explained that in order to issue a "yellow warning", the temperature in the west must rise to at least 37 degrees Celsius and in the southeast and north, 39 degrees.

Mr. Koulentis said that over the weekend the weather conditions will be better, as the area of Cyprus will blow a stronger, westerly air current, resulting in the temperature being limited to 37 to 38 degrees Celsius.

Asked about this, Tasos Koulentis warned that moderate to strong winds blowing in the area of Cyprus are capable of contributing to the spread of fire.
