PSATHI FIRE - 48 RESIDENTS SPENT THE NIGHT IN A HOTEL

 Pafos Live 11 June 2024

Forty-eight residents of communities affected by the fire will spend the night in Paphos hotels.

The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mr. Hartsiotis, who rushed to Pafos tonight, coordinated the efforts, expressing his satisfaction with the actions of the services and parts of the state that prevented a greater disaster. The first thing, he said, was to ensure that no lives were in danger, and this was achieved.

He rejected criticism of the negligence of the state apparatus and firefighting forces, noting that an aircraft of the forest department patrolling the area spotted the fire in time, dropped and called for reinforcements.

The intensity of the wind was such, he said, that the fire spread rapidly, causing this immeasurable destruction.

Update 12 June:

The huge fire between the communities of Psathi-Kourdaka-Choulos-Lemona and Amargeti is in decline.

With the first light of day, the aircraft available to the republic began to operate again in order to immediately extinguish the fire, before noon, where winds usually blow in the area.

During the night, an attempt was made to secure the fire around the fire, but the area was huge and the resurgences were continuous.

Today, a team of officials of the Ministry of Interior begin recording the damage, first of the houses and premises, while the recording of the damage to agricultural crops will follow.

AND FROM THE VETERINARY ASSOCIATION

Announcement of the Pangyprian Veterinary Association

The Cyprus Veterinary Association would like once again to express its sorrow for the great disaster that occurs due to a large and uncontrollable fire. The consequences that accompany this catastrophe, in addition to the continuous shrinkage of our natural environment, extend to the loss of animals, property, and hopefully not human lives.

We would like to thank and congratulate all our fellow veterinarians who opened their clinics and offered free accommodation and/or care to animals affected due to the great fire that is staying in the Pafos District. We would like to ask colleagues who continue to be interested in helping to host and care for fire-stricken animals, free of charge, to write the details of their clinic in the comments of this message, for the convenience of the public.

The Cyprus Veterinary Association will assist in the effort made and with practical support where needed.
