Only with the caps and lids attached will plastic containers containing liquids for drinking up to three liters be able to be placed on the market, according to an announcement by the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment. It is noted that this provision will apply from July 3, 2024 onwards. In fact, any stocks that do not meet the legislation should be withdrawn from the market before the above date, the Department of Environment announces.
According to the Communication, single-use plastic products, bearing caps and lids made of plastic, will only be able to be placed on the market with caps and lids attached during the product's intended use stage. Please note that metal caps or lids with plastic gaskets are not considered to be made of plastic.
The Department of Environment clarifies that this requirement concerns beverage containers (containers containing liquid products consumed through drinking, such as milk, water, wine, beer, liquid soft drinks, juices, nectar, instant drinks, etc.) with a capacity of up to three litres, i.e. containers such as beverage bottles, as well as composite beverage packaging.
Glass or metal beverage containers with plastic caps and lids and beverage containers intended and used for liquid food for special medical purposes are excluded from this arrangement.
