PAPHOS ON CULTURAL ROUTES

Paphos participates in the European program Interreg Euro MED entitled 'MED-Routes'. The aim of the project is to enhance sustainable cultural tourism in the Mediterranean through the creation of ecological routes within the European Cultural Routes.

The overall objective of the MED-Routes project is to create and transmit a Mediterranean model of sustainable tourism on 4 cultural routes in the Mediterranean region and to create a concrete model of Mediterranean "slow tourism" rooted in the common heritage of four Mediterranean cultural routes.

The 4 cultural routes are: 1) Cultural Route of ceramics, 2) Cultural Route of the Phoenicians, 3) Routes of the Olive Tree and 4) European Federation of Napoleonic Cities.  The project involves 8 European partners from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Greece, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Cyprus.

The project is 85% funded by the European Union. The duration of the program is 27 months and the budget of the project amounts to one million euros. The budget allocated to the Pafos Tourism Board amounts to €130,000.
