FIRE - ACTIVE FRONTS BY HOULU AND POLEMI

 Pafos Press 12 June 2024

Two active fronts by Houlu and Polemi in inaccessible areas exist at the moment, which cannot be easily approached by ground forces, according to the Spokesman of the Cyprus Fire Service Andreas Ketti.

In his statements to KYPE, Mr. Kettis noted that everyone was working throughout the night, 250 personnel, 50 fire engines and 8 earth movers. In addition, he said that four aerial vehicles have been operating since early morning, one aircraft of the Forestry Department, the two aircraft that came from Australia on lease and a Police helicopter.

As for the two Kananders that arrived from Greece, they are, as he said, at the Paphos airport, and are preparing to operate, while around 10:00 am two more are expected to arrive from Jordan. Mr. Kettis noted that houses suffered extensive damage in the area, and dozens of others were protected, he added.

The entire state suppression and support mechanism and organized voluntary bodies are contributing to the extinguishing project, concluded the Press Representative of the Cyprus Fire Service.

AND:

A fearless police officer saved a grandfather who was fighting for his life in the pool of a burnt house in mountainous Paphos.

According to the Police, while checking the houses that were affected by the fire, the officer heard voices. It was about an old man who was found inside the house (which was not his). For unknown reasons the old man had fallen into the pool and was trying to hold on to its plastic cover.

The policewoman pulled him out, gave him first aid and sent him by ambulance to the Hospital.  The old man is in good health.
