PROPOSAL FOR ENTRY OF FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES IN CYPRUS

Filenews 29 May 2024 - by Evangelia Sizopolou

The Ministry of Education will put before Parliament in the near future, its proposal for the operation of branches of foreign universities in Cyprus. If Parliament gives the green light, the Government's announcement will begin to be implemented next September.

A competent source of the Ministry of Education told philenews that this development will upgrade our country's Higher Education, while making it even more competitive.

It is noted that if this policy is implemented, foreign universities (from Europe and elsewhere) will be able to operate their branches in Cyprus. Their students – who will be selected on their own criteria and not through examinations of the Ministry of Education of Cyprus – will receive a university degree as if they were studying in the country where it is based.

The programs offered in their branches by foreign universities will be subject to the evaluation and supervision of the Quality Assurance Agency (CYQAA) operating in Cyprus.

It is recalled that so far the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Technical University of Athens have expressed interest in operating a branch in Cyprus.
