The data of professional bodies show that in Pafos the restart of commercial activity after the total renovation of its shopping center continues during this period of festive atmosphere, to continue much more positively in the catering sector than in the retail sector.
This situation was largely expected according to professionals in the field, since catering is anyway a priority sector for the vast majority of citizens over commodity markets in a time of crisis such as the current one. In particular, however, the issue of the launch of the service sector in the city center is considered to have been positively influenced by the intense effort of the municipal authority to bring people and businesses to the commercial and historic center in order to revive it after decades of desolation.
In contrast to the steady flow of customers to businesses on the coastal front and the port in Kato Paphos, in the city centre the situation until the redevelopment was zero in terms of traffic in the catering sector. The effort undertaken in recent years by the municipal authority and the indirect premiums for businesses to operate in the center, has paid off greatly, in contrast to the trade sector whose businesses in the center are closing one after the other or simply vegetating.
The same factors express the certainty that these days, due to the festive season, the traffic in the traditional bazaar of Pafos will temporarily increase. They observe, however, that the gap between catering and retail businesses is again much larger than officials estimated.
