PAPHOS IS THE BEST SMALL TOWN TO LIVE IN

 Filenews 27 May 2024

Nestled on Cyprus' southern coastline, next to the Mediterranean Sea, Paphos takes the crown as the most sustainable small town in the world, according to a report by Compare the Market AU.

The report looked at seven factors, namely the number of restaurants, entertainment options, unemployment rate, number of rainy days, health index score, safety score and total cost of goods.

Paphos in Cyprus came out on top with a score of 5,495 out of 7, while the top three with the best small towns are completed by Spain's Arrecife (4,717) and Italy's Trapani (4,622).

The world ranking also includes two Greek cities, Ioannina and Xanthi, which occupy the 22nd and 44th place respectively.

In general, European cities dominate the list. Grande Prairie, Canada is the only non-European city to make it into the top ten with a score of 4,295.

Commenting on the survey, Stephen Zeller, General Manager of Compare the Market AU, said: "There are many advantages to living in smaller towns, such as a slower pace of life, easy access to nature and cheaper housing, as smaller towns tend to be more affordable, simply because there is less demand for people moving there. So not only are everyday items like coffee and meals out cheaper, but real estate tends to be cheaper as well."
