LICENSING FIREWORK BAN LIFTED

 Pafos Live 19 May 2024

The Quarries Service of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announced the lifting of the ban on licensing fireworks, following a review of the whole issue and taking into account the views of all relevant Departments.

In an announcement of the Mines Service, it is stressed that, during the examination of each application, the provisions of the Explosives Legislation and the relevant European Directive on safety issues will be strictly applied. Also, the conditions and special circumstances of each case will be taken into account (throwing hours, throwing area, temperatures, concern that may be caused to citizens and animals) and appropriate precautions will be applied in order to prevent any unpleasant situation, such as fire, injury, etc.

Especially for the permitted events that take place on the mainland, they will be licensed only after approval of the Fire Service. If the fireworks area is 2 km or less away from a state or private forest, the relevant approval of the Department of Forests will also be required.

It is noted that the pyrotechnic articles that are allowed by the general public, those that are allowed only with permission and only by persons with specialized knowledge, as well as the permitted events that may be licensed, are shown in the notification of the Explosives Inspector (K.D.P. 109-2020) which is posted on the website of the Mines and Quarries Service on the website of the legislation governing explosives (https://www.moa.gov.cy/moa/mines/minesSrv.nsf/dmllegexplosiv…).
