According to the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panagiotou, Cyprus is proceeding with the purchase of ten flying fire-fighting vehicles.
In today's statements, Mrs. Panagiotou stated that for the Republic of Cyprus, the prevention of fires and their timely treatment is a matter of national security.
It is for this reason, he added, that the Government is proceeding with the purchase of ten privately owned aircraft and with the transfer of the Aviation Equipment Unit to the National Guard so that our country can increase its operational capacity to deal with fires, especially in the summer period.
