Two scooter-type motorcycles found on different dates in villages in the Nicosia district are at the center of the examinations of ICF investigators, in the context of the investigation of the case of the attempted murder of Dimitris Andronikos ("Dimitroui") on 23/4 on the Palaichori-Anthoupoli road.

These two motorcycles have been found on the outskirts of western Nicosia, with investigators considering on the basis of the testimony before them, that they may have been used by the perpetrators of the crime in two different cases.

It is believed that one of the two scooters was used to track Andronikos before April 20, while the other was used in the attempted murder of the 34-year-old three days later.

According to the testimony presented by the ICF of Nicosia in two court proceedings for the purpose of detaining the suspects, it is being examined, at the same time, whether th  9th suspect, who is a person of Romanian origin, aged 28 and who lives in Limassol, supplied the perpetrators with the two-wheeled vehicles.

Where were they found?

In detail, what seems to be the case with motorcycles:

  • One of the two scooter-type motorcycles, according to what an ICF investigator told the Court, had been located in Akaki on 20/4/2024, where two people had abandoned it upon the arrival of police officers at the scene. These two people were wearing a blue and a black helmet bearing an inscription of a well-known distribution company. According to the Police, during the same period and specifically between the dates of April 16-22, the target of the attempt, which took place on 23/4, was going to the Peristerona police station to visit a friend who was in custody.
  • The second motorcycle was spotted last Monday by police while a court process was underway to detain the suspects. According to information, it was found on the road Akaki – Menoikos and there is reasonable suspicion that it is the one used by the perpetrators during the attempted murder of Andronikos. It should be noted here that initially the police information said that the scooter on which the perpetrators of the crime were riding was transferred to Kaimakli in order to be dismantled.

Both motorcycles undergo scientific tests to determine whether they identify with the suspects.

The role of the 28-year-old

From the initial stages of examination of the case, the ICF of Nicosia evaluated the role played by the 28-year-old, 9th suspect with the motorcycle on which the two persons who undertook the implementation of the plan to kill Andronikos were riding.

In the detention request examined last Monday, the head of the ICF investigation team said that a photo on the 28-year-old's mobile phone shows the stolen motorcycle found in Akaki on April 20. In addition, in visual material from his telephone there is an identical motorcycle to the one used in the attempt on 23/4.

Alexandros Saouris, the lawyer of the 9thsuspect based on what he told the Court last Tuesday, is considering appealing the court decision to issue an 8-day detention order against his client.

The Police arrested a third person at dawn on Thursday, based on a court warrant, as part of an investigation into the incidents that took place in Ypsonas on Holy Saturday night.

According to the police, he is a 22-year-old man from Limassol who was detained to facilitate interrogations. For the same case, 2 more persons aged 19 and 21 were arrested.

It is recalled that, during the attack, the perpetrators set fire to one of the official vehicles of the Police, which was completely destroyed while four other patrol vehicles suffered material damage.

The ICF Limassol continues the examinations.

While the Ministry of Interior was looking for ways to prevent foreigners from entering the Republic of Cyprus through the green line, going so far as to install (at a later stage) barbed wire, a member of the community council facilitated their illegal entry and employment.

A relevant reference can be found in the report of the Audit Office, which concerns all communities (349 in the free areas and another 137 concerning occupied communities). On 11.3.2016, the Nicosia Assize Court issued a decision convicting a member of the CP for offences directly related to the facilitation of illegal entry and employment of foreigners in the Republic.

The member's conviction concerned the issuance of false certificates in violation of section 48(3)(b) of the Communities Law, i.e. certificates through which he asserted, both false facts which he knowingly did not correspond to reality and facts which he was not in a position to know whether they corresponded to reality.

In doing so, he was completely indifferent to the burden of responsibility that his very capacity required him to behave. The sentence imposed on the member amounted to a total of €4,200 with prison sentences concurrent. The Law Office of the Republic in a letter dated . 23.5.2016 to the District Officer of Nicosia expressed the view that the above offences involve dishonesty and moral turpitude and therefore article 16(2)(e) of the Communities Law should apply, according to which "A person who, after his election, has been convicted of an offence of dishonour or moral turpitude or has been deprived of the right to stand for election following a decision of a competent court due to the commission of any electoral offence".

Subsequently, the Attorney General, in a further letter dated 28.6.2016 to the District Officer of Nicosia, and after submission of representations by the member and after reviewing the above issue, expressed the opinion that the offences to which the member pleaded guilty do not involve the element of moral turpitude or are of a dishonourable nature.

Police in Paphos appear to have caught sea bass after arresting three suspects of burglary and theft.

Evaluating evidence and testimonies received recently, the Police arrested today two men, 32 and 36 years old, as well as a 35-year-old woman, on suspicion of participating in the ring that operated from November 2020 until today in the district of Pafos, carrying out burglaries and thefts amounting to hundreds of thousands of euros.

According to the first data of the Police, the total loot of the perpetrators seems to reach the huge amount of €800,000, both in money and valuable objects such as gold, other valuables and luxury products.

The three suspects were allegedly engaged in targeted residential burglaries in Paphos over the years, from where they stole luxury and high-value goods. Their arrest was followed by searches of their residences in which a large part of these items, believed to be products of burglaries and thefts, were found.

The three were taken into custody, while investigations continue by the Police Headquarters and the Pafos Police Directorate due to the large amount of data and the long time of action of the ring.
