The 46-year-old and the 35-year-old were indicted in a direct trial before the Larnaca Permanent Assize Court, which will meet on July 1, for the arsenal found on May 20 in a grave in a cemetery in Oroklini.

The two face serious charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, transportation and possession of explosives without the permission of the Inspector of Explosives, and transportation and possession of firearms and ammunition without a license to possess.

The police requested that the two defendants remain in custody until the start of their trial. The 35-year-old's defence lawyer objected to his detention, which was rejected by the court. Thus, the two undertrials will be transferred to the Central Prison.

This is perhaps the largest amount of weaponry recovered following a police operation, believed to be related to criminal beatings organized by people at night.

It is recalled that the 46-year-old was arrested at the Oroklini cemetery, while carrying a bag in which were found, among other things, a shotgun, 500 bullets in 10 packages of 50 and a pistol.

Also found in a grave were military weapons, such as an anti-tank launcher with three propellant projectiles, a number of rounds of ammunition, improvised explosive devices, one of which was connected to a mobile phone and ready for use, as well as a pistol with a silencer.

Police are still awaiting the completion of scientific examinations in an effort to determine whether any of the weapons have a criminal past or if there is genetic material in the weapon that implicates other people in the case.

Internet services from a company in Switzerland appear to have been taken by the sender of the threatening e-mail sent to schools in Cyprus on May 17, Police Spokesman Christos Andreou said.

This emerged from the response given to the Cypriot authorities, by the Russian authorities, with the Cyprus Police having already requested information from this company in Switzerland and awaiting a response.

Today, an identical email was sent en masse to schools in Attica in Greece with the Greek authorities and the Cypriot Police in contact.

In his statements, Mr. Andreou explained how the Swiss company came about in the case. He said Russia, which was questioned by Cypriot authorities as the address of the sender of the messages ended with the Russian ru code, replied that the provider, which offers certain online services, was in Switzerland.

Therefore, the Police have sent a new request to Switzerland and are awaiting a response as to the identity of the sender of the messages.

This does not mean, he clarified, that the message was sent from Switzerland because the internet service provider is located in that country. The message, he added, could have been sent from any country.

As Mr. Andreou said, Europol replied from day one that identical in content e-mails were sent to other European countries recently, either to schools or malls.

Meanwhile, today, the headquarters of the Greek police issued a statement about mass emails sent in the morning to a large number of schools in Attica, with identical content to the one sent to Cyprus and threatening to place cotton in schools.

"We contacted the Greek authorities, it seems again that the address ends with ru but with a different first part of the email address, with an identical message, with bomb threats and therefore we are in contact with the Greek authorities," Andreou told CNA.

The management has struck a new blow against illegals in prisons, removing communication tools with the outside world, apparently for an illegal purpose.

In a raid yesterday on prisoners' cells in Central Prison, four mobile phones, a charger and a small pocket knife were found. Mobile phones are very expensive, a sign of the financial standing of those associated with them.

All items were received for examination, while it is being investigated how they passed into the cells. What is certain, according to philenews' information, is that the findings were intended for the "heads" of the Prisons, that is, to persons who are considered to be in charge among the prisoners.

Frequent raids on wards or targeted cells take place, following the clear instructions of the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Marios Hartsiotis, to crack down on crime planned by prisons. Despite recent strikes on criminal elements with the removal of heavy weapons and repeated arrests for criminal acts, the authorities are not complacent.

The instructions from the justice minister are to continue checks on both prisoner cells and staff.

It is noted that in the last three months, more than 20 mobile phones were detected that unknown persons enter prisons. The management of the penitentiary has intensified checks, without exception, in all wards and in all cells, in order to identify any movable or other illegal objects.

A new case of online fraud and extortion of money exceeding €135,000, is being investigated by the Police, following a complaint filed by a 58-year-old man.

According to the complaint, the 58-year-old, last December, spotted on an online social media platform, an advertisement of a company that presented itself as based in a foreign country and that in the next two to three years it would enter the stock market, generating financial profits. After the 58-year-old was persuaded to buy shares in the company, after contacting the suspicious advertisers, he initially transferred the sum of €26,000 to a bank account indicated to him by the suspects at a bank based in a second country abroad.

The 58-year-old then made two more money transfers, totalling €110,350,  to a bank account indicated to him by the suspects, to a bank based in a third country abroad, for the purchase of shares of a second company, which also appeared to immediately enter the stock market and generate large profits.

After the period during which, according to the suspects' claims to the 58-year-old, the money from his investment would be sent to him, but without any profits being sent to him until April and after under various pretexts the suspects continued to demand more money from the 58-year-old, he suspected that he had been deceived and filed a complaint with the police.

The ICF Limassol is investigating the case.
