The curtain came down today with acquittal on another serious case of a sexual nature that has been heard behind closed doors for almost two years.
The Limassol Permanent Assize Court acquitted and acquitted three young defendants of rape and sexual abuse of a minor in 2019.
The three youths, a 22-year-old man and two 20-year-olds, were facing charges of rape, sexual exploitation and child abuse, corruption of a young woman aged 14. The defendants denied all charges they faced and the case went to a court hearing.
The Permanent Assize Court of Limassol, according to information provided by philenews, in today's decision, found the complainant completely unreliable at various points in her testimony. It also ruled that the right of a minor defendant had been violated as upon receipt of her statement, it was made without the presence of a lawyer.
After a two-hour reading of the judgment, the three young men left the Assize Courtroom, smiling and hugging their relatives.
According to the facts of the case, the then 14-year-old complainant in her testimony claimed that she and one of the accused, around mid-December 2019, had arranged an appointment for a night out. She claimed that the defendant – then an 18-year-old – picked her up from her home in his car, in which his two 17-year-old friends were travelling.
According to what the minor claimed, she had been taken to a remote area in Limassol, claiming that two of the three had sex with her involuntarily.

The Fire Brigade and the Police were mobilized after a fire broke out inside the stadium at Agia Fylaxeos High School in Limassol.
At first sight and according to the testimonies obtained by the police, students wearing balaclavas, appear to have thrown tires inside the stadium and set fire.
According to philenews, the fire was noticed by the school administration and teachers, who rushed with fire extinguishers to extinguish it. A fire brigade of the Department of Forests arrived at the scene in time to extinguish the fire.
It should be noted that members of the Police went to the incident and from the oral testimonies they obtained, it appears that the perpetrators are students wearing hoods. Outside the fencing of the school field, three burnt tires were found, in which it seems that the violators set the fire.
