As part of the investigations into burglaries and thefts committed in the city and district of Limassol, the Police proceeded today to the rearrest of a 32-year-old man, who is already in custody for at least 20 cases of burglary and theft committed in the last 4 years or so in Paphos and resulted in the theft of money and property worth approximately €865,000.

Specifically, the 32-year-old is being investigated another 14 cases of burglary and theft committed in the city and district of Limassol in the last two years and resulted in the theft of money and property with a total value of more than €600,000.

During the examinations, a 35-year-old woman was re-arrested and is also in custody for the aforementioned cases in Paphos. Testimony emerged against her in two of the Limassol cases concerning the offences of kleptoacceptance.

Two Nigerian women said they were victims of an armed robbery. They claim that a bag containing €5,250 was stolen from the apartment where they live, while the perpetrators fired twice in the air, leaving the apartment.

The robbery was committed a few minutes before nine o'clock last night. The two attackers, described as dark-skinned men who spoke English, rang the entrance doorbell and when the young Nigerian women opened the door, the two men pointed a pistol.

They searched the apartment and after locating the bag with the money, as reported by the girls, they took it with them and disappeared.

When they got out into the street, they fired into the air twice. Police found two pistol shells in the area.

With the help of a citizen, who perceived and informed the Police, three persons were located and subsequently arrested by members of the Police, who were wanted by the Police in the context of investigating a case of theft and fraudulent use of a stolen bank card for various payments, in the Famagusta district. The case is being investigated by the Famagusta ICF.

Photos of the three wanted suspects, two men and one woman, were released by police on May 13, 2024, with the aim of gathering information that could help locate them or identify them until then unknown.

On Monday, while the three suspects were moving on foot in an area in Paralimni, they were noticed by a citizen, who after recognizing them as the three wanted suspects, immediately informed the Police and specifically the Famagusta ICF. Immediately members of the ICF rushed to the area, where they located the three suspects, who were checked.

From the examinations carried out subsequently by ICF members, the three suspects, men aged 24 and 25 and a woman aged 23, have been identified as the three suspects sought. Judicial arrest warrants were issued against them, under which they were arrested and detained for the purpose of police examinations, with the 25-year-old having already confessed to committing the offences under investigation, while the other two suspects are reportedly making allegations which are being investigated.

According to the evidence under investigation and a complaint submitted to the Police on May 1, a 49-year-old man, the previous day, April 30, received information through an electronic application of a banking institution in which he holds an account, that his bank card had been illegally used for transactions at various premises in Ayia Napa and Paralimni. After checking and finding that his bank card was not in his possession, he assumed that he had lost it.

Examinations conducted by members of the police raised suspicions against the three suspects.

Police sources speak of an important operation in the fight against organized crime.

The operation was carried out within the day by the Anti-Narcotics Service (YKAN) Headquarters and was crowned with success, after a large amount of weapons was detected.

According to philenews' information, the weapon was located after an evaluation of information received by the YKAN Headquarters and a search conducted by its members at a specific point in Oroklini.

These findings are linked to the activity of a criminal group based in the areas controlled by the Republic of Cyprus.

Police are investigating whether the weapon is linked to recent criminal activities. The Criminal Investigation Service of the Police is located at the scene.

Update - 

Even a high-power explosive device ready for use included the arsenal found in a cemetery in Oroklini today at noon after a coordinated operation by the YKAN Headquarters.

The improvised explosive device included the explosive and a connected mobile phone. It is understood that the person who created the bomb in question intended to detonate it remotely.

Beyond that, among the items found, the following are included:

· One RPG and two missiles

· A G3 military rifle

· Three plastic packages with projectile propellants.

· High power improvised explosive device with built-in mobile phone

· A Springfield pistol.

· A SIG SAUER pistol, without its movable parts.

· Shotgun dismantled.

· Large number of bullets and cartridges.

The Cyprus Police are currently sparing in leaking information about the case. However, they have arrested a 46-year-old man, about whom no further information is given.

However, philenews sources report that the person in question is linked to a police operation a few months ago and execution of search warrants.

Update - The Police made a second arrest in connection with the case of the detection of weapons today in Oroklini.

According to police, a 35-year-old man has been arrested while examinations are ongoing.

The two arrested are expected to be brought before the Larnaca District Court tomorrow for a detention order.

The case is being investigated by the ICF of Larnaca.
