A total of 1980 factory firecrackers were found and confiscated, this morning, during a search carried out by members of the Police, at a house in Limassol. To facilitate investigations into the case, a 23-year-old Limassol resident was arrested.

The survey was conducted around 10:30 a.m. today, at the home of a 23-year-old man, in Limassol, after evaluating information received by the Police. During the search, 99 boxes containing a total of 1980 factory firecrackers were located and seized.

The 23-year-old, who was present during the investigation, was arrested for the offence of illegal possession of explosives and taken into custody to facilitate interrogations.

An 83-year-old woman fell victim to a telephone scam pretending to be doctors yesterday afternoon in Nicosia, with fraudsters managing to extort a sum of money amounting to €650. The case was reported to the Police and is being investigated by the ICF of Nicosia.

According to what the 83-year-old reported to the police, around 4 p.m. Yesterday, she received a phone call from an unknown man on the landline of her home. The stranger allegedly asked her for money for surgery, which her grandson supposedly needed to undergo. A short time later, an unknown man visited the 83-year-old at her home, who received from the complainant the amount of €650.

On the occasion of this case, the Police once again recommend special attention to the public, stressing that such telephone communications and allegations are false and aim to deceive citizens and steal money. It also appeals to the public to immediately inform the Police in case they receive such calls, by contacting the nearest Police Station or the District ICF, or the Citizen's Line, at the telephone number 1460.

The Customs imposed an extrajudicial fine of €3,500 on a 55-year-old for illegal possession of duty-free tobacco products.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, on 4/30/24 around 4:30 p.m. following information, members of the Paphos Traffic Police stopped a vehicle being driven on Kato Pervolion Street.

The driver was a 55-year-old man in whose possession duty-free tobacco was found, specifically 140 packs of cigarettes and 50 packs of tobacco as well as 800 terrea (electrical combustion). Mr. Nikolaou told KYPE that the Customs was informed about the case and imposed an extrajudicial fine of €3,500 on the 55-year-old.

On Holy Wednesday, the Police in Paphos arrested a 73-year-old woman from a Third Country, who had been illegally staying in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus for over two years, while she was working having presented an identity card from another EU member state.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Operations Director Michalis Nikolaou, on May 1 members of the Aliens and Immigration Service went to a cafe located in Paphos after investigating information that undeclared foreigners were being employed.

As part of the investigation, a check was made on a 73-year-old woman who was cleaning the cafeteria, who showed a photocopy of her Georgian ID on her mobile phone.

The Pafos Police arrested a 29-year-old woman on Tuesday night for illegal possession of narcotics.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations Michalis Nikolaou, on Tuesday around 10:40 p.m. members of the Paphos Crime Prevention Ulam were patrolling the Paphos Municipal Market where they spotted a woman walking suspiciously.

As it became clear, he added, it was a 29-year-old woman and a subsequent investigation found her in possession of 8 grams of dry plant matter, i.e. cannabis, resulting in her arrest.

Police made a fourth arrest in connection with the quantity of drugs found last Monday evening, April 29.

He is a 28-year-old man who was arrested under a court warrant to facilitate interrogations and detained.

The drugs were found on the evening of April 29, during a search of a house in Nicosia. A number of nylon packages containing a white crystalline substance with a gross weight of approximately 250 grams and approximately 60 grams of cannabis were found and seized at the house.

After the detection of the above substances, three persons, aged 19, 21 and 22, were arrested for a flagrant offence. The three arrested were brought yesterday before the Nicosia District Court, which issued a seven-day detention order against them to facilitate interrogations.

The continuation of police examinations revealed testimony against a 28-year-old man, on the basis of which a judicial arrest warrant was issued against him. The 28-year-old was located today by members of the police and arrested to facilitate interrogations.

The YKAN (Nicosia District Unit) continues the examinations.

A case of robbery, common assault, illegal entry, malicious damage and threat of violence are being investigated against a 30-year-old man who was arrested by the police in Limassol following a 46-year-old woman's complaint.

According to the complainant's complaint, the suspect resided with her occasionally and on eight separate occasions, between January and April 2024, punched and slapped her on various parts of her body.

On April 25, the 46-year-old said, the suspect entered her home through a window without her permission, while on April 28, he went back to her home and, at knifepoint, allegedly stole her car keys, damaged bedroom curtains and fled in her vehicle.

Yesterday, the 46-year-old reported the case to the police, who secured a court warrant for the arrest of the suspect, who was located at midnight after the vehicle he was driving was stopped.

A subsequent search of the vehicle found three bags of white crystal methamphetamine, weighing a total of 5 grams and the sum of 2890 euros, which were received as evidence.

The offence of illegal possession of a controlled drug class A is also being investigated against him.
