83,166 PATIENTS UNDERWENT OPERATIONS - 60% OF GESY BENEFICIARIES VISITED A SPECIALIST

60% of the beneficiaries of the General Health System visited a specialist during the past year, while 83,166 beneficiaries underwent some kind of operation. 70% obtained the medicines they needed through the GHS, while one in two underwent analyses.

The HIO took stock of the fifth year of operation of the GHS during a press conference this morning.

Among the goals of the HIO for the current year, the strengthening of primary health care and personal doctors, the inclusion of criteria for the access of Persons with Disabilities to health services, and the assurance of the timely provision of services to all beneficiaries of the System.

According to the data provided by the HIO, 969,722 beneficiaries are registered in the System during the fifth year of operation of the GHS. From this:

  • 807,331 beneficiaries have visited their Personal Doctors
  • 637,536 beneficiaries have visited the Specialist Doctors
  • 319,259 beneficiaries have visited Radiology / Diagnostic Centers
  • 501,035 beneficiaries have undergone Laboratory Examinations
  • 318,990 beneficiaries have visited dentists
  • 698,650 beneficiaries have taken medicines
  • During the same period, 83,166 operations were performed.

"The highest priority of the Organization," he said at the conference, "is to shield and strengthen its financial sustainability through a series of plans and actions so that it remains strong and efficient."

In the last year, "the Fund's reserve amounted to €590 million approximately, which is equivalent to more than 4 months of covering costs'.

"The Agency is not complacent and monitors on a monthly basis the course of expenditure and revenue of the Fund, constantly expanding controls to effectively address any problems arising from abuses or other distortions. At the same time, it continues to implement the Roadmap to effectively address abuses."
